R9 270X - Issues

Morning All,

Just completed my first build and went for the aforementioned Sapphire R9 270X GPU. Build went well but I first noticed something was up when my Windows Experience was 1 for Graphics. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)

I've tried downloading the latest AMD catalyst, but I always get a fail error. I've run dxdiag and the display tab just states generic AMD graphics, with no further information.

Steam tells me it knows my drivers are not up to date, and when I try and run any games the .exe runs in the background, but nothing appears on the screen.

Now, i'm making the assumption that all the above is connected, i'm currently running the PC through my 42" TV, so don't know if that may be the cause of the game not being visible.:confused:

Has anyone had any experience with the above card and the drivers?

Cheers, I'm running the FX-6300 black edition, on a ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX Micro ATX AM3+ motherboard. 600w PSU.

I'm having a nightmare, everything else seems great, just can't get the GPU to be recognised.

EDIT: Onboard GFX I have no idea, I won't have it disabled. Is that a BIOS thing?
 
Depends sometimes theres an option in the bios, on some boards putting a card in auto disables the onboard gfx.

Daft question but are you connecting the TV to the card not the outputs on the mobo?

Has your mobo got the latest BIOS on it?

Only other thing I can suggest is maybe a fresh install of windows :)
 
I'll have a look on the BIOS, yep, I'm 100% connected to the card

I can try the fresh install, but it was a fresh install to start with, I've literally just built the thing.

So frustrating...

When I try and run the auto detect from AMD it says it can't identify, which is strange.

What PSU is it youre using?

Sounds like you need a driver sweep to get past that install error. Could be a system file or something. Try this.

Follow the instructions. Run that in safe mode, sweep your system of AMD and Nvidia drivers (if applicable) then try to install the latest 13.12 WHQL drivers.
 
Ok, so the plan for tonight is to.

1. Check the GPU is connected properly, and has the correct cable from the PSU
2. Check mobo BIOS is up to date
3. Check BIOS to see if it's recognised and dual graphics is disabled
4. Sweep the drivers and re-install 13.12 from AMD website

Can anyone think of anything else and (god hope not) if this doesn't fix the issue where I go from here?

Make sure both 6 pin cables are connected from the PSU if its got 2 :)
 
By chance, I went with option 4 first, and it worked a treat. I am now sporting an overall 7.4 with a 7.9 graphics capability. Happy man :D

Thanks for all the help, got the bug now, will be building another one (probably a really small mini itx) soon.
