Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 30th January 2014]

Sounds like it was pretty much cut and dry then. We'll be lucky to take a point from this if the text commentary is anything to go by.

Yep we have been utterly terrible, going 2-1 up and letting them score to level it up a few mins later.

Thank god thats over, shower of complete and utter crap tonight from us...we play like this for the next few games and our title challenge is over.

Well gotta say don't see what fuss is over Barkley at all. Countinho has played good for us tonight he did really well in the deeper role suited him will give him so confidence back also
Barkley's been immense for Everton this season. Was risked for the derby and it backfired but he'll be a huge threat in future Manchester derbies.

So let me get this straight:

Our top goal scorer has just won himself a three-match ban.

Our next best goal scorer has just been sold.

The other three players with more than one goal to their name this season are all injured.

Despite 60% possession and 20 shots at goal before Remy was sent off we only managed three on target and obviously no goals.

We've got the Tyne/Wear derby, then Chelsea then Spurs.

Doesn't bode well at all really does it. <sigh>

But we've done enough to stay up this year so the fat **** no longer gives a toss. He's probably already down the Gate casino spending the Cabaye fee.

If Southampton could actually convert performances like that into points they'd probably still be mixing it up near the top of the table, sadly though the goalscoring just isn't there recently when it really counts.

Replacing Osvaldo with someone on form and scoring goals would transform the Southampton team at the moment.

2 points dropped for SOTON, awful game. Looking at our run of fixtures this could be the start of our annual implosion :(

Yep dropping points against the lower teams is going to cost us. Hopefully this is just one bad game and we get back to winning in our next few games.

Terrible all round from Arsenal, its like we couldnt care and our defending tonight was atrociously bad especially when we went 2-1 up.

Missed a quarter of the match but it seems like we were massively luckily to even get a point from that, Southampton outplayed us for the entire first half and then just as we were getting a foothold Flamini gets sent off for what seems like it was an incredibly stupid a reckless tackle. We can't afford to make mistakes like this in the league, especially when you look at the sort of form City and Chelsea are in. :(

Full time, 2-0.

A steady performance from us, nothing too exciting. RvP looked pretty sharp considering this is his first match since the start of December. Rafael was good, Evra wasn't. Evra looks a massive liability in defence. Smalling and Evans were comfortable at centre back, though Evans kept trying to attack too much.

Jones was good as a 'destroyer' but he's not a midfielder after all, his passing ability is very poor. He's like a terrible Yaya Toure. Giggs was Giggs, tidy but very steady. Young was rather good, (pretty much) assisting the first and scoring the second (which was a great strike), it'd be nice if he could maintain that level but I bet he won't. Valencia had one of his better games too.

Mata wasn't bad, he was tidy but looked short of match fitness. We need to see him on the pitch with Rooney alongside him, as well as RvP and one of Kagawa and Januzaj, that's where he'll shine. He was ahead of RvP a lot of the time which was strange, he's meant to be behind the striker not ahead of him. I guess RvP is used to dropping deep, so that's something to work on.

I thought we seemed to be playing at a very slow tempo, but Cardiff had plenty of men behind the ball so it wasn't easy to get forward.

Cardiff weren't bad themselves, a few decent attacking moves and some of their players don't look bad.

Need to build on this and go on a good run of winning games now.

With Gouffran and Ben Arfa injured, Remy suspended, and Cabaye gone, our line-up against Sunderland will have a grand total of two Premier League goals between them this season.

Can't wait for us to spend all this money we have available that Martinez has talked so much about in reaction to this.
