I'd recommend you download a mod called XVM which shows the last position of spotted tanks along with a few other good benefits. Makes the map much better including your spotting range.
 
Tier 8 prems, t34, jagdtiger, lowe or t34-3 im leaning towards the t34, however the jagdtiger has some pretty awesome stats, 250 armour plus a fast firing gun and the t34-3 seems like fun

250mm armour is only on the super structure. Lower plate is weak as toilet paper and the upper plate is decent vs t8's but T9's will pen it with ease. I've only played the T9 one so can't comment on how good the premium is.

The T34 is a great tank, I love it. Its got pretty much the best gun not on a TD at Tier 8, although it is slow to fire and takes awhile to aim. The tank is also quite slow as well, but it can dish out nice damage and handles T9 / T10 tanks ok as well, thanks to the penetration. If you can hull down in it, it works well.

Best thing to do is download the test server and try them each.
 
I've got the T34, I made the cardinal sin of buying it well before I knew what I was doing. So I sucked in it badly! My map knowledge is still too poor to play it well, but if you get dug in with it (and there's no arty) it does well.

I think it will be the t34 but I have the test sever just need to update it and give them a go
 
Out of all of them, the T34 is the best Tier 8 Premium that I own that you can still buy. It's a tier 8 version of the T29 really. (Sorry but the Type 59 is better... :p)

The T34-3 is good, but only in an experienced player's hands, don't expect it will be easy to play. The Lowe is similar to the T34, with slightly better hull armour and a comparable gun (less damage and penetration, but better accuracy). Can't commnent on the JT 8.8, but from playing the tier 9 JT, it's very good armour, but a tad slow. The gun looks pretty good on the 8.8 (it's amazing on the "real" JT).

T34 is the best all rounder
IS-6 is very good too, it lacks penetration so you have to fire at weak spots and struggles against tier 9s. However, you NEVER meet tier 10s in it thanks to preferential match making. The armour is very nice, it is very rare for a tier 6 or 7 to pen you even from the side and most tier 8s will struggle from the front even when firing gold. I prefer playing my IS-6 than my T34, although some of that might be new toy syndrome.

Ah yes the Type, another noob purchase I made after hearing how OP it was. So I believed that and played it with zero knowledge of how it should be played. Unsurprisingly I failed miserably! More baffling to me now was that I carried on playing it so much believing it was indestructible. Back then I didn't pay attention to individual stats and other tanks were making up my overall WR. I do okay in it now, but repairing a WR that was way down in the 30's is going to take some time :(

Agreed, the T34 is a great premium tank. Hull down it's pretty good although the commanders hatch is quite big and easy to hit. The hull armour is garbage so don't count on any angling at all. The gun is a bit slow to fire but for it's tier does a nice amount of alpha with decent pen and should be feared by most.

Out of all my premium tanks, the Type 59 is still my favourite. It's just really fun to play. The gun isn't great but good enough for most situations but the ability to flank bigger tanks is great.

Never played the lowe or t34-3 so can't comment.

The IS6 - I'm still undecided on that one, good armour although when someone sees you they immediately switch to gold and then armour/angling means nothing. The gun though is utter utter crap. Even with gold you'd have a better chance of penetrating a tank by pressing your lips to the inside of the gun barrel and blowing a golf ball at them. Therefore it doesn't get played as often as it probably deserves for both reasons.

The JT 8.8 - I've only played it on the test server and thus gold ammo abound....still, it has very decent armour and the gun is very good knocking out shots very quickly and thus having good DPM.
 
Only buy a T8 prem that has special MM. Facing Tier10's in the T34 is the worst bit about the tank and the only reason I dont rate it as high as others.

JT 88 has the same armour as the T9 JT with one difference, a thicker lower frontal hull.

No one is sure why and the developers don't care about changing it.

You don't have to retrain for premiums. You just need a crew of the same country and class. So it helps train up your skills/perks nice and quick as well. There's a mod that let's you move crews between tanks nice and easy as well (send entire crew to barracks, put best crew).

Yeah, now I read your post when I'm more awake you're on about skills not retraining the tank qualification! :o
