Drivers car, 4 seats, sub 10K. Opinions?

I still think you should straight pipe an A3 3.2 :D

I believe you can get an extra 50HP out of the engine relatively inexpensively as well. ;)

Not sure about the extra hp from a VR6 without significant work. The mk5 GTI and mk6 GTI (slightly different engines) should see around 260 bhp minimum with a remap. Or maybe an Edition 30?

Or just get the M3 and be done with it :)

If you are considering a golf GTI have a look at the Edition 30 models. They have the bigger turbo from the S3 so with just a remap can go from 230bhp to close to 300bhp. I have a normal GTI myself it handles fantastically and the 2.0TFSI doesn't sound too bad even with the stock exhaust. Whilst i'm sure an M3 is a far better drivers car I couldn't afford to run one myself. The golf is pretty cheap to run, parts aren't even all that expensive.

Also why do people talk about the R32 golf noise like it's some form of HEMI V8, it's a V6.

It sounds ok but nothing to jack off about really.

Alfa V6 sounds a lot better and is more powerful too. 10k my money would be on a nice 156/147 GTa with the Q2 diff or the 159 Q4 is 260bhp AWD and is fantastic VFM.

I had a couple of 156's back in the day, twin spark and v6 and both great engines, great steering wheels and great looks. That is where it ends :)

Sorry but that's very, very unlikely. They just aren't comparable to an m3 either.

The automatic has 50HP more than the manual, and has the same engine. Admittedly that is as far as my research went.

Edit: Lol, 2.0TFSI manual vs 3.2 Quattro auto. Derp. :D

The TT is a numb impractical lump of fashion, the M3 is one of the greatest sports saloons on the planet, even if 90% of the owners today are called Kev, Dave and Saj.

I was talking about the A3 3.2 Quattro. Admittedly the M3 will be quicker and nicer to drive, I assume, but I was just chucking more options out there. :)

How much are old RS4/6's?

The V6 version is worse. B7 RS4's are still well out of budget and the RS4/6 will cost more to run than an E46 M3. I speak as someone who did 100k miles in 2 E46 M3's and 100K in a B7 RS4.
