Google-Motorola "X Phone" in the 2013 pipeline?

you know you can normally relock and reset the counter on a HTC using RUU files I think. I did that to a HTC One S, you don't register the bootloader as being unlocked I think.

I managed to get into boot menu but the menu itself was unresponsive. Also connecting it to a computer failed too so I was snookered. I think as you say you can can get rid of the tampered message.

LOL - all it says on the website is that the 32GB version will be available online. Doesn't say when though. I suspect another wait for some. Though I take on board what Matt says about Moto and the UK retailers, Motorola don't help themselves either it would seem?

That's Motorola for you always treating the UK market as second class compared to the US. They don't help themselves at all.

Yes. They offered to have it picked up but as away during the day this week I sent it Special Delivery. Stupidly I thought it would be delivered the next day before 1pm but SD actually means 'chuck it in the back of the post van and we'll deliver sometime when we can be arsed'

With luck the PO will lose it and I'll claim £500 for it

So HTC not received it yet and can't say if they are going to be sticky about warranty.

With luck HTC will lose it for you as they've lost phones that have gone in for repair before!
Expect quite a wait for the phone to returned back to you as their repairs service is far from exemplary.

Par for the course for Ebay. It was supposed to have been used instead of an iPhone and the owner said he couldn't get on with it and went back to iPhone and put the HTC on Ebay.. It was stock when I got it both locked and un rooted. I've not bothered to even root it myself and certainly not unlocked. At the boot menu it shows 'tampered' but when I reset/wiped it around Christmas when it first went into boot loop I don't remember seeing the tampered message  Can't be 100% sure though as I was steamed up about it boot looping

In honesty I'll take some persuading to move to a Moto X from the HTC One.

Exactly it is what you get with eBay I suppose. Even more reason to get a Nexus 5 which is reasonably priced.

@matt100 Thanks for checking...seriously Q2? Forget that! By then the next batch of phones will be out or will be due for release. I'm not hanging about for a Moto X.

Time to get my cases refunded methinks...I couldn't live with a 16Gb Nexus 4 and I'm not going to try with a Moto X no matter how good it is.

Besides my N5 is behaving itself now in the battery department so I'll live with it for the time being.

I'll be honest I wouldn't ditch a nexus 5 for a moto x.

Not saying I'd prefer a nexus 5, I could build a case for me having one if I wanted to but they're very very similar.

I actually fancy a sony next given the chance. I think my last Sony was something like a K850/W910 or P1, had all of them but gave up on them as soon as I got into smartphones.

Actually.. lies, I briefly had an Arc.. either way, their new stuff looks pretty hot so long as I can get some kind of stock ROM on it.

Oh good, things not improved at HTC repairs then  At least it has been delivered now though HTC 'tracking' looks as much use as tooth ache.

First HTC phone I ever had was a Desire. I managed to drop it onto concrete and crack the screen. Sent it back for repair and they replaced the screen only when I received it back about a cm down left hand side was unresponsive so back it went.

I like the price but other than that I'm not bothered. As to Ebay then nothing surprises me. You have to take it all into account and weigh up the risk

I'm not sure it's 'that' good :p

Really glad the Moto X is coming out here, especially at that price! It won't be top of the line when it comes out but it's still an interesting phone with a lot going for it.
Only serious competition at that price range is Nexus 5 and Xperia Z1 Compact.

Got an email at 9-00 last night saying my HO was now in the repair centre and repair would start <yay> Those fellas don't slope off at 3pm on a Friday afternoon and expect they'll be working all night to fettle it :p

Hopefully they'll sort it without cost to me and in which case I'll skip on a Moto X for now. With luck it'll last me until the next gen Moto X arrives for consideration. At least with Motorola UK it's never an impulse buy as they give you months consider their best devices. They being both Motorola and the retail trade ;)

As you know they received it end of last week and it is now on its way back to me. No mention of not repairing it! Looks like a fast turn around though I'll wait until I know for sure it is sorted before heaping praise on HTC. As I said it displayed tampered in the boot menu and having bought it second hand on ebay I had no proof of purchase to send with the phone. When I first contacted HTC support I did point out I'd bought it s/h off ebay and support person never bothered about that.

I like the Moto X but at £380 or whatever it's been tipped at, it's not presenting a great deal, considering the price of the Nexus 5 and LG G2.

I'm thinking the same Mate, the initial excitement of the Moto X has worn off for me. Other than the active notifications and the SAMOLED screen it doesn't offer anything different. I've gone off the idea of buying one...

The leaked specs of C6503 (possibly the Z2) look really great, although I'm not sold on the screen tech that Sony employ, although with each iteration the quality has improved.

Let's hope that HTC do a decent job repairing it Dude. Should be interesting to see the quality of repairs on the HTC One and whether they have rectified it.

If the support person wasn't bothered about it, you shouldn't really worry yourself as long as they can repair the phone and the problem is rectified to your satisfaction then it's a win-win :)

Significant price drop for the Moto X it can now be had for £299 + shipping (16Gb) version that is....

Despite recent events is this phone worth getting?

That's an extremely tempting price! I was kinda planning to wait for the 32GB model, but for £300 I'm not sure I can resist! If I buy sim-free I can stay on giffgaff and have unlimited bandwidth for cheapz, mitigating the lack of storage. ("Lack" being a relative term... my current phone has 2GB onboard storage and an 8GB SD card so I'm sure I'll still feel like a king of infinite space even with the 16GB one to begin with....)

EDIT: If I were to decide I was desperate for the 32GB model, would I be able to import one from America? Or do the American models work on different frequencies?

They seem to have done a decent job. If they have opened the phone up I cannot tell . I've no idea what has been repaired as enclosed docs didn't specify. Main thing is phone seems to be working fine :) No repair bill and boot menu now displays 'locked' so it's a win-win all round  Also have a spare sim tray too as they sent one back with the phone

Well it's still the same phone only cheaper. You never know, support and development may be better with the new owners. Personally been a fan of Motorola phones and if I'd not got this HTC One and it wasn't so damned good I'd be looking seriously at a Moto X. I'm not someone who runs more than one phone at a time though I do have a spare Moto Razr i for when the HTC breaks down

Yes it's a great price however for some including me 16GB isn't enough.

Ebay's your best bet but I think you have to get a GSM unlocked one which works with T Mobile and AT&T networks which are compatible with most networks here. I'm not too sure though however I'm sure Matt100 would be able to clarify this.

Bear in mind that if you were to import a Moto X from America it'll be subject to Customs Duties which could be anything from £30-£70 extra.

Well done to HTC for doing a good job with the repair, you must be well chuffed and like you said it's a win-win especially since you didn't have to pay anything towards the repairs and the boot menu has been reset back to "locked."

Nice one Dude.

With regards to the Moto X yes it's the same phone but only cheaper, I'm also someone who doesn't tend to run more than one phone at a time, I don't have a backup phone though and my Nexus 5 is doing a stellar job so far.

There maybe one more update on the horizon but who knows now that Lenovo have bought Motorola out. Having seen the Moto G first hand, it has piqued my interest again with the Moto X though....but in all honesty if push comes to shove I think I'll pass the X over...

Yep Tmobile and AT&T will work here but I don't think you'll get 4G, thats a bit more complicated than simply frequencies, you need to take bands into account too which gets very complicated and I've chosen not to even try and understand it until I know I live and work in places with decent coverage.

The other added issue is that my AT&T version has a locked bootloader and a few bits of bloat that you can't get rid of, AT&T don't allow you to unlock the bootloader either, exported or not so given the chance I'd go for Tmobile or Rogers (canada) or one of the South American ones.

Although to be fair the price the UK version seems to be settling at (and will no doubt drop quickly) I probably wouldn't bother with the hassle.

Although.. Lenovo.. WTF lol! That was out of the blue!

Exactly, frequencies and bands and also the person's UK network in question are the factors that have to be taken into account, but very short and concise summary there Mate.

In my case If I were still interested in this phone and wanted to import one, in order for 4G services to work then I would import a South American one.

For sure the UK version will drop very quickly, I can see more price drops coming and it's not worth the hassle importing the X into the UK, although if people are after the 32GB version then they might have to because Motorola still haven't made it clear as to if and when it'll be available.

LOL...Yeah Dude, Unbelievable re Lenovo it happened so quickly...there's Moto X owners over on the XDA thread who are slightly agitated due to the deal.

It's still a great phone and if I was in the market to buy one I would strongly consider the X especially due to the recent price drop. Although I'm really enjoying my N5 at the moment.

On a side note, the dBrand Moto X skins turned up today, I emailed the company and the 'bots said I can return the skins for a refund, which is great.

EDIT GSMarena have confirmed that the 32GB version will not be available in the UK. Well done Motorola once again you're treating the UK market as inferior. I don't see the logic in this - releasing a phone literally 6 months later than the initial market launch then capping the models available. Great strategy....Now I remember why I vowed never to buy another Motorola phone after the Moto Milestone debacle.

Well done indeed. Phone going well too and battery seems to be lasting a little longer than it did. Wasn't bad before though of course everything on the software side is fresh.

Only reason I have the back up phone is the s/h value of a Razr i isn't great so may as well hang onto it :D Moto X does look what might be called a mid range phone and a very good one at that. If I hadn't got the 'One' than for sure would be looking at getting a Moto X .... just not a 16gb model

My opinion of the sale to Lenovo is they can't be a lot worse than Motorola were with their support, updates and general UK marketing?? (Yer I know marketing isn't all down to Motorola in the UK)

It still says 32gb available online only on Motorola UK's website  If we aren't to get the 32gb version then yes, well done Motorola and 'I'm out' ;)
