Another thread on this, sorry.

Stopped in the pick up area at local Sainsbury's to grab some cash. It quite clearly said "10 minutes maximum", which was fine, I was gone for literally 60 seconds.

When I came back, guy saying he'd send the ticket in the post, since it says in very small writing that the "driver must remain with the vehicle". It's really small text, no way I'd see it when driving.

So technically I'm in the wrong, but is there anything I can do? It was not deliberate disobeying of the rules, it was that the rules weren't clear.

There was nobody else in the bay (as you can see in the picture).

Here's some pics:

Thanks guys :)

You can probably fight it on the basis that its a private parking charge and the amount isn't proportional but to be fair it quite clearly says 'No parking' and you... parked there.

You can either ignore it or appeal it. Ignoring private parking tickets isn't as effective as it once was, but I've never heard of euro car parks taking anyone to court and winning.

Your best bet would be to post up the ticket on fightback forums (if you even receive it) and see what they say. Either way, you won't have to pay it, it's just a question of whether it's worth putting in a proper appeal to POPLA or not.

Whilst I think charges like this are ridiculous, it does say no parking. By parking there you are sort of asking for it really.

 When are people going to realise that this isn't the best advice any more?

OP if and when you get the ticket you would need to appeal it through ECP when they inevitably reject your appeal you would then need to appeal through POPLA. However I don't fancy your chances there either as the sign is very clear that it is no parking and that the driver must remain with the vehicle. Also pick up point is pretty self explanatory as well.

I've had multiple parking tickets from Sainsburys in the last 6 months due to the fact that the parking attendants can't even read their own signs. Binned them all and never had anything back

So yeah, bin it

No, you've had no parking tickets from Sainsburys as they contract out carpark management to external companies. You've no idea whether this is the same company as the one who the OP is dealing with, as you thought it was 'Sainsburys' who gave you the ticket.

Lucky you.

So yeah, bin it

Ignore this.

Thanks guys, I agree I was in the wrong.

I just read the sign, saw "10 minutes" and assumed that was that. The "driver must remain with the vehicle" text is there, but one doesn't expect further restrictions (other than time) so I didn't read on.

It's not that I couldn't read it, more that it's a non-standard restriction and so should have been displayed clearer.

So perhaps I should just pay it? Hopefully it'll be a "£30 if paid within 14 days" thing.

I'll learn no matter which way this goes!

Don't just pay it, appeal it. It won't go to court because they'd never be able to prove that you've cost them any amount that they're asking for.

These are supposed to be used to recover revenue that your actions may have deprived them of, they won't be able to prove that your actions cost them anything, because well, they didn't.

It's a punitive "fine" for not doing as you're told basically. So don't just pay up.
