Want to know if I should replace sata 2 cables with sata 3 cables if it makes any difference in speed or reliability... Or anything.

It seems like a cheap upgrade to do anyway.

Also if I mark my primary Ssd in sata port 1 and then hdds sata 2 3 etc will that affect anything. Eg their drive numbers or the OS? Will it also do anything to performance of my drives?

My motherboard is the gigabyte z87x ud3h I want to know if it's better to use the black sata ports or the blue (Marvell chipset??) ports

Yes there are... Different sata gens eg ones with clips etc are updated revisions of sata cables.. I just want to know if the revised versions affect performance.

sata cables are like hdmi cables

no affect on speed no matter which type you use/cheap/expensive ect

you can setup your drives on the sata ports like you described, most important/os on the lowest numbered ports and less important drives/dvd drive ect on the higher number ports

the bios scans the ports from lowest to highest before it passes things on to the os and boots, will you notice? idk

yeah thats what i was thinking wazza.. by lowest you mean 1 is low right ... dont know why im making sure... lol

anyways your wrong on that comparison.. hdmi cables matter, the internal wiring of some (branded premium ones) get way better speeds e.g 16gbps vs 5gbps ... does it matter? no. unless you use 3D and cant use DVI

maybe on hdmi then, and the length affects things I think, but sata cables are all the same regarding performance

port 0 I think on some boards upto 4 or 5,i always put my dvd drive on port 4 or 5

Without getting tied up on whether a cable matters or not (in my eyes it doesn't)
Identify the ports on your motherboard, My board for example has 2 Intel Sata3's, 2 Marvell Sata3's and 4 Intel Sata 2's.

Make sure you put the drives you want fastest on the fastest ports (in my case the intel 3's)

steve thanks for the help however what is the best way of finding out what is fastest... and do i just reconfigure the sata ports on the mobo coz last time i remember mis plugging it in the wrong port when i finished working on the pc and i couldnt boot .. didnt bother changing in bios as i knew it was the wrong sata port.

Cables are certified to operate at given speeds. An HDMI 1.0 cable will probably work with HDMI 2.0, but a certified HDMI 2.0 cable will definitely do it. The HDMI consortium say that you won't need new cables but I've already had to replace long HDMI runs of 1.0 compliant cabling with 1.4, I expect 2.0 to be much the same.

As for reorganising SATA ports, just use the fastest ones (already said) and the ports which allow you to tidy them away most easily.
