Rim brakes are bad on an off road machine, the grit eats away at the rims + they stop working in the wet!

They are OK on a road bike though and are very low maintenance.

I'm thinking of the Ribble 525 Winter bike, with Campagnolo and rim brakes, true traditional machine.

Need to see how my back holds out, I'm East Manchester and it's very hilly!

If I was just starting out cycling and commuting my plump would be for a Boardman CX bike - decent spec and can do it all.

Flights to California booked.:D

Also found a bike shop within walking distance of my flat that does bike box rental for £7 per day, on the condition you send them a postcard from your destination!

Who got some cheap Rapha they want to sell me? ;)

I need to come up with some birthday suggestions for the gf and her parents want to get me something. The Rapha range seems to have been cut right down, due for a new revised collection perhaps?

Tough handicap race today. Even tougher when you miss the start with your bunch and end up going in the group after..... :o

Didn't have the legs to pull a turn with the top A graders driving the pace, I probably could have done one or two but would have popped quickly. Sat on the back for the last 15km while they blasted along trying to catch the leaders on the road. Easily got a new PB for the course, average of 40.1kmh.

Still have some work to do!

BMC signed Samuel Sanchez surprised it took him so long to get a contract, bet BMC beat him down on his asking, but I'd say he's a great signing.

Much better than Lampre Merida signing Chris Horner IMO, wouldn't have touched him with a barge pole ignoring his outstanding performance at the Vuelta, too much like an injury or bad past risk for a rider whose maybe got one good season left in him.

£7 per day?!! Just ask your LBS for a cardboard bike box (new bike packaging), mine give em for free. All you need to do is take the front wheel off and drop the bars.

Just been for my longest ride yet, 60 km to Dunham Massey and back (ish).

I've got to say that I am glad I waited for this morning to go on my weekend ride because the weather was absolutely brilliant. Bright sunshine, a bit blustery in parts, especially on the exposed roads but I had a fantastic ride.

You are right VonHelmet, cycling round Dunham Massey is fantastic. Saw hundreds of cyclists round there and the Edge 810 really helped because I would have got hopelessly lost around there.

I'm not sure I'd trust baggage handlers with only a bit of cardboard protecting my bike.

Looks like you can't get them delivered and have to go to a Halfords to collect.*shudders*

73.9mi this morning in the glorious sunshine for a change! I started out early so was riding in the dark for an hour with my sunglasses helmet mounted until the sun came up. Because of this, I didn't have prescription lenses on at this point so didn't see the huge shard of something that instantly punctured my front about 9mi in!!

Thank god for the Lezyne Road Drive - I swapped the tube and put in enough pressure to finish off the ride.
