Official EQ Landmark alpha starts today

I'm curious but I'm not about to put money down on another unfinished game even though I could easily afford to.

most people have probably got burnt and feel the same way

So this alpha looks like a the next gen minecraft. I Would have loved this a few years ago but don't have the commitment these days.

I don't like idea that if you stop playing for a while your hard work gets wiped.

I believe, correct me if im wrong, the Landmark part is just a building game, however they are going to take selected designs and put them into live, i heard via contests and stuff, not 100% sure.

Its basically MinecraftEQ i believe right now, the non Landmark version looks interesting, i cant see any other MMO in development right now being that interesting with the exception of Wildstar which will probably clean up, looks like TESO is doomed to failure and also i dont think Pantheon is going to hit its Kickstarter Goal.

Also interestingly EQN/EQNL are both f2p although they are charging money for alpha / beta accesss, no different than a kickstarter pledge i guess except the game is garaunteed to launch lol

Pay $100 to build stuff to be used for no recompense in another game that'll probably also charge $100 for alpha access in 6 months time and uses all the assets you built.................Horrible! Everquest fans should avoid this out of principle!

Long time EQ addict fan, here.

No way I'm paying for an Alpha of a demo/toolkit of a game which isn't even in Alpha yet :p

I paid, I'll go onto my home computer later to see what happens, but the alpha forums are complaining that everything they craft keeps going missing when they log :p

game looks good in game but my 12gb core i5 laptop stutters like hell. Need a good GPU. But from what I seen, it looks very promising.

What makes you think that?

the time between the thread being created and the first reply which happened to be me saying that :P

I'm curious thought so looked if there were any decent vids on youtube,. most seem to have the graphics on low and it looks awful , on low the map looks horrible as well made out of blocks.

this guys video is half decent but the game looks so slow to progress in for a what's basically not a game and just a lego simulator at the moment. (yea I know the difference between landmark and everquest next I'm just saying)

looks like you can only dig down to about the height of your character. (11mins in the vid)
seems really buggy atm as well this guy had to keep changing his graphics to low anytime he changed zones or the game tended to crash on loading

if you buy landmark access you aren't even guaranteed a spot in eq next beta either by the sound of it

Good lord man, it's an alpha :p released one month earlier than they originally had planned, and for which only people who have paid to support to the game currently have access to. It's going to be incredibly buggy, textures will be bad, there will be memory leaks galore, sound problems, UI problems, crashes to desktop, BSODs here and there, server crashes, lots of character wipes etc.

It's alpha but when people are paying for access people should expect at least a stable client.

imo free alpha can be buggy as hell.
paid alpha should raise the bar a little higher as the players are basically paying to play a game and not paying to be a proper tester
in a free alpha/beta you know you are expected to be a games tester and you are not paying so it's fine.

huge server queues , server issues and claiming is bugged from what I gather.

people are paying upto $100 they should at least be able to get in the game and play what's available with minimal issues, you have a responsibility for your customers.

They are alpha testing the game for them, they are paying to do that, there are people that want to do this and help shape the game. It's the same for rust and dayz, I don't care about forking out money so long as I can help make a great game.

You don't really. If anyone's dumb enough to fork out €100 for alpha access, that's their issue. Alpha by definition means a skeleton of a game and a horde of bugs.
