New ROBOCOP

February 7th is said to be the UK release date of the film... not long to go now to see how it turns out!

Tr wasn't bad it was actually a family decent retelling of the story. I expect this to be of similar vain.

If you remove the word 'decent', then that would be about right. What was removed from the original in order to create this newer Total Recall, is like removing the chocolate from a chocolate cake; sure it's still an edible cake, but when you want chocolate, a plain cake just doesn't cut it. ;)

When your complaining about how bad these remakes are could does mean we are just that old ?

Cos I do it on every single one lol

Total recall remake was nothing without arnie, but the new one was saved thru Kate beckinsale who is stupidly hot :)

Not really. There are some people who saw the original films from which these remakes came recently, and preferred the original (at least in the case of Total Recall anyway). Not everyone mind, but there are those who are easily convinced by some nice eye candy.

What made Total Recall, Robocop and Starship Troopers great films was the satire. You remove that, and you've lost an integral part of the films. I saw that they are planning a Starship Troopers remake as well (oh joy). I would be amazed if that doesn't turn out to be another child friendly job.

Not even Kate and Jessica could make the TR remake into a half decent film. It's not a good film in it's own right, let alone compared to the original. The part when they tried to talk Quaid out of coming out of his so called dream, that was so bad, I nearly cried with laughter. I'm hoping Robocop remake will be better than the TR one, mainly because Jose Padilha looks a far more credible director, given his previous work. Len Wiseman hasn't made a good film yet, and given his lack of talent, isn't likely to. Looking at the trailers though, the Robocop remake does look naff. Padilha will have a good excuse though, he wasn't allowed to do what he wanted with the film. I remember reading he told friends he was getting frustrated making the film, and that every idea he had was turned down. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't give a **** come the end.

Marsman is bang on.

You can't replace charm, wit and wonderful satire with flashy special fx.

ED: Then again, Starship Troopers managed to do the lot...

He was quoted as saying it was like hell trying ot make the film, that for every 10 good ideas he had that was inspired form the original , the executives stepped in a said he couldn't do them, also he wanted it an R rated movie.
I feel sorry for him, at the start he seem genuine in how he wanted it as a proper Robo remake.

Well talk about split opinion so far. 50/50 roughly, with Empire giving it 2* and Total Film giving it 4*. Maybe it's going to be another Terminator: Salvation, where some reviewers gave it a much higher score that it deserved. Maybe Empire decided they weren't going to make that mistake again. Both TF and Empire gave that 4* IIRC.

Film 2014 were not very impressed with it. Ultimately they described it as mostly vapid.

This is just pointless bickering. It will be a box office success and loads of people in this thread will see it, no question about it.

I won't pay money in a cinema to watch it, not when i have the likes of The Wolf of Wallstreet yet to watch. this looks way worse than Total Recall or Terminator Salvation (which i actually enjoyed!). Way way way worse.

Nothing to do with the new film, but Kurtwood Smith, the guy who played Clarence Boddicker in the original, is one of the few actors who I have seen in any film, who has played such an irredeemably evil ****, that whenever I see them in any other film/tv from that point on, no matter what the role is, all I see Clarence Boddicker, who at any moment could be about to blow someone's hand off. That's why I couldn't watch That 70's show :)
