Replacement suggestions for the Boxster S

Some interesting posts, at the moment I'm thinking either a remapped manual 335i or Mustang but I'll certainly look into the 6 series as I've always really liked them.

Had a look at the S4 I can buy with my money and I don't like the looks, certainly prefer the e92 over it.

I think the money that would get me a 2.5T MK4 Mondeo and a 300bhp remap would be better spent on the 335i?

It would, yes. It was more of a response to your statement about the ST220.

And then, the money for a 335i would be better spent on an E46 M3... and so on... and so forth.

Good point, I'll consider one but I think if it came down to the same money going to a Mondeo or 335i I'd be more tempted by the BMW as it's RWD and likely to handle the power better.

Mustang would be the only choice for me. Everything else seems utterly pointless

:D

To be fair I think you're mad for not liking the E46 M3. If I wasn't a terrible hatchback fanboy I'd have one myself. :p

I am still trying to get my head around going from a Boxster S to a Mondeo for no good reason and no actual need to.

Give someone like Adrian Flux or Peter James a call for a quote on a C5 Corvette. You cant buy insurance for these kind of cars through comparison sites.

P.S. my Yank (albeit it a classic) costs the equivalent of just over 50p per horsepower to insure. :)

As previously explained I want to change my car, I don't enjoy the current car anymore. Normally I would pump some extra cash into the purchase and 'move up' to something but at the moment I find myself spending more time on other things and not as interested in cars.

It would be an RS4 B5 Avant or RS6 C5 Avant for me.

Doesn't Avant = estate? I don't want an estate but would consider a saloon if they make them for the above cars?

Classics are a bit different, this car needs to be my daily (although my mileage is very low - 5k a year). I'm going to give AF a call today to see what they say.

Get a 996, around £10k for 2000 MY if you drop the 10 year old rule.

Not really interested in another Porsche, I would also guess a £10k 996 would be basically the same as my Boxster is every way bar 2 extra small seats.

6 series is a good shout, I think they look awesome. Big and wafty.

I don't think my budget gets me a good one (would need to be a 650i) and they hardly made any manuals by the look of it.

Apart from the obvious what's the difference between a 135i and an e92 335i. Am I right in thinking that apart from the looks (interior and exterior) and size the cars are very similar (gearbox, engine etc...).

It seems easier to find an e92 335i than it does a 135i in the budget.

How much money can you realistically save by chopping it in for something crap to save for something more?

Sounds like you have the choice of sticking with it and saving for something you actually want, or chopping it in and saving more.

I'm not trying to save any money by changing cars

I don't want to save any money for a car purchase that costs more

I just want to change my car :o

I would have thought 10K nets you a good 6 series?

Not my field of expertise in honesty.

I understand the whole want to change car not for money saving but for a change. As I have done so before in the past.
