Is OcUK banned at your workplace?

Our internet is quite restrictive at work. But OcUK is one of the few that is not blocked, except some pictures, the odd game thread for some reason and embedded youtube links.

If they ever blocked it..... well they would unblock it very quickly lets just say that ! lol

I think in my place it's a case of "it's pretty much all open and if you take the proverbial you will be spoken to". I think pron and the other obvious stuff is blocked.

Can always get on now due to smart phones and 3G/4G, but no its not.

My old boss a few years ago blocked it because he noticed I was the most frequent internet user out of the whole company (~120 people) and UCUK was the main site. I did used to leave it open all day though and every now and again just hit F5 on GD

:D, I once managed highest usage out of a company of 25,000+... seems nobody else was streaming music all day at work (random playlists) - all video streaming is blocked so no ones usage is that high.

Oddly this forum isn't flagged as a forum or community at my place of work, otherwise it would be blocked.

Not blocked, I make a good wage lets say.

I sometimes have days and days of very little to do, forums keep me relatively sane. There's only so much reading printed off ebooks looking busy a man can do.

I worked somewhere where OCUK, theregister and loads of work distracting sites were blocked too. A guy in our team set up a Citrix server at home and published IE so we could log onto his home connection and browse whatever sites we wanted.

Fortunately for my many humour moments, OcUK is not filtered at work.

Unfortunately this means I spend a good couple of hours on this per day and my workload can suffer if we've got a lot going on.

Damn you OcUK forums!!!!

You're not one of these people who thinks it's not work unless you're working up a sweat are you? The knowledge based economy is a real thing, has been for a while, and isn't going away. The concept of 'company time' is pretty alien now - you get paid a salary to perform certain duties, not to be seen to be working for x amount of hours per day. Work can happen in the morning while you're having breakfast at home and it's not uncommon to have to sort out non-work issues during the working day.

100% agree. Just because your at work doesn't mean you spend every last second doing work - that's an incredibly old fashioned and actually damaging way of looking into it.
I have days where im in the office till very late at night busting my ass, and il have days where I literally do ZERO work. Swings and roundabouts - and any half decent manager will know that.

Any job nowadays that requires you to work 100% of the time , is the wrong job.

Not blocked, however all sigs and pictures don't work. Which limits certain threads.

I do have a one hour Internet allowance per day but no idea how that's enforced.

I can get on BBC but if I read any links I get an abort error in IE. Same with parkers, honest John fine though. Think it's the browser but don't really want to contact IT saying BBC doesn't work!
