Don't think this is true, there was a study showing the average life expectancy of these creatures was less in the exclusion zone than elsewhere in the world.

That may be true but numbers are thriving is I think the point. There were no bears left in Ukraine before the accident and now the zone has quite a few of them.

It's crazy when you are in the zone, you can hear so much wildlife.

So, will the zone ever be inhabited by humans again?

Properly? I doubt it, I reckon there is a sound argument to build a large containment plant there for nuclear waste since it is already an exclusion zone!

There are quite a lot of people still living there though at varying levels of legality. Many returned when the Soviet Union collapsed, there was no more state welfare and they had nothing to their names but they had fully furnished homes in the zone. I met a few, the shocking thing is they grow food in the zone and eat it, that's the seriously dangerous part.

Were the people not rehoused after the disaster? I thought when the Soviet Union collapsed, people ended up owning the apartments they were living in.
