Anyway, how about a late e39 M5?
It has ample power, manual, well built, your not fussed about costs...

I think you have to be a real enthusiast for an M5, not someone that has a passing fancy for a Mustang.
Op says he's not 'massively bothered' about running costs... again I don't see that align with M5 ownership.
Buy an M5 because you want an M5, not because you suddenly don't like your Boxster anymore
Oh and it has more than 'ample' power lol.

All these 'quit life' and 'omg moron' comments are quite funny. I'm not sure what people don't understand;
* I currently have a car, which I've had for 3 years and would like to change
* I have £13k as a budget, but I'm aware this will not get me a better (but different type) car
* I'm not massively bothered about running costs
* I'm not willing to or prepared to add extra money as I'd rather spend it elsewhere, I still enjoy cars but see no need to spend £25k on one anymore
Going by what people are saying in the thread the only way to go is add £15k and get a 911 or die. There is no 'OMG a 130i will make you die of aids after your current car' to it, whatever I get will no doubt not be as 'good' as much current car, but I'll enjoy it more.
FYI - my OH's car is a FWD 150bhp hatchback and I love driving it, it's comfy, the handing is awful (FWD), nippy and just fun to drive. A sense of fun that I no longer get from my current car.
At the moment it'll be a Mustang providing I find a decent one in budget, or a manual 335i with the idea to eventually get it remapped.
To whoever suggested leasing - I've no interest in this as 'new car' and I don't care about band/make appeal.
How about go down the classic route And get a car which is going up in value. Keep for a couple of years and flip it... E30 M3?
It will feel completely different to a modern car and in the future when you get back into something modern then it will be a pleasant surprise again.
Out of interest, do you think you jumped to an "epic" car too young?
I actually have some sympathy. You want a change of car, don't want to spend money, and are not a robot that can be convinced of what to like by facts and figures nor reviews. Good luck.

I understand fully the desire to change,I don't understand some of the comments toward the OP, then again, this is OC/UK motors!

Predictable nod from me perhaps, sure, but your budget would bag a very nice one and I'd argue it's a far better prospect than some suggestions in this thread after a Porker....
At the very least try one, I actually prefer them over the e46 M3 and tbh a Boxter!

fancy a trade for my 335i cab with a remap (auto)?

S2000.
Get a 2004-2006 model, and then fit:
Baffled sump, oil catch tank, decent tyres, get a full geometry setup at a decent place, get a new intake + exhaust manifold & exhaust, Hondata/aem EMS and remap.
Use change for loads of track days and tuition.
It will sound fantastic, go well and still have a reasonable degree of practicality. A good example looked after well will have a decent depreciation curve during your ownership too.

Hi James
Have you ever done a trackday in the Boxster? By the way this would not invalidate warranty, Porsche allow trackday use, hey they expect it.![]()
13k can get you some very nice cars and you don't seem too focused on the type of car, you just want something with good lucks and makes a nice noise, hence the Mustang idea.
Problem is now, last year 13k would have got you a V8 Mustang, now it will get your something ropey or a V6 unless you get lucky. With Mustang coming to the UK the current models are now more exclusive and rare, plus in some ways have truer US/Muscle styling which is preferred by American UK car enthusiast, plus the UK version will no doubt be 40k, as such boosting values of second hand cars. Just like 997 Porsche values have held as the 991 was launched so expensive.
For 13k there are many example of great cars you could get that look good and make a great noise. You could get some form of AMG Mercedes and have class and amazing soundtrack, or something like a spotless E46 M3, though its just a BMW which is downside.
What you won't do is really get a better handling and more sorted car than a Boxster, but you can certainly find something rarer, better sounding, better looking and a lot faster.
Is 13k all you expect to get for the Boxster or are you just putting some cash to one side?
I say BUY A MUSTANG, find a good one, it was and still is the car which made me the grin the most and I kept the longest, I even owned it twice. Plus they are a real platform, you can transform them into amazing handling cars which insane performance and it can be done without spending stupid amounts of money.
Just get a Stang, you will never bore of it, they are a true occasion and absolutely bullit proof, they simply do not break down, just too basic.![]()
I've done a trackday in a Cayman S (the Porsche Silverstone thing) which I absolutely loved.
I remember first looking 2 years ago and there were loads of 2005/2006 V8 GT's for £12k, now I can see maybe 1 or 2!
Looking on AT I see 2007 3.4S Boxsters with around the same mileage up for anywhere between £11k and £13k, no idea what mine will actually go for mind. I do have 12 months OPC warranty on my car though.
Just to pick up on this point again, my interest of a Mustang is more than 'passing' My dad owned 2 whilst he lived in the USA and a further one about 6 or 7 years ago shortly before he died unexpectedly. The car was sold to pay for funeral costs and I always loved the looks, size and overall image of the Mustang. In the same way an e39 M5 is Fox's halo car, a Mustang is mine![]()

How much did you buy the Boxster for? Was it 25k
This Mustang, is lovely:-

I know your saying 13k budget, but seriously don't buy a dog for 13k when 15k would get you a far cleaner example!
Though the one I linked too, looks exceptional for 12.5k, it really does, either a bargain or something being hidden.....
My 'passing' comment was tongue in cheek. A mustang may be your halo car, but if you were dead set on getting one, this thread wouldn't have taken the direction it has. I think you should get one, but the right one.
Fox is never going to buy an E39 M5, he knows the time for this has passed. Likewise I'm not going to suggest he buys a 'stang instead![]()

I've been looking at that Mustang (it's on AT as well) and there must be something wrong with it. It's been up a while and looking on owners clubs there are tons of people after cars exactly like that and nobody has snapped it up yet.
Amazing cars, but I think I prefer the Mustang.
Boxster was £23k but that 'included' 2 years of the OPC warranty 'worth' £1.8k.

Oh I know it was tougue in cheek, just adding some background information as to why I've always been after a Mustang. Providing one is in budget and I can get insured on it (which has never been the case until now) then I will get one![]()

Amazing cars, but I think I prefer the Mustang.
I think I might have a look, the issue is my 3 years NCB doesn't come in until May, it's a crap time of year to try and sell my car (and I do really need to sell it before buying the next car). So even if it was perfect I don't think the timing is right.
I have got all of next week off though so I may give them a call.
The other issue is I really need to contact a current owner and ask for a passenger ride etc.... as I've only previously driven the auto. I want to make sure the manual is what I want. I can understand a seller not wanting to let me drive their car on DOC either.
A Plan are coming back to me on Monday with some prices for 2 years NCB and 3 years NCB.
