US: Black Sails - STARZ's new original series, with pirates!

Set up as a twenty-year prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic book Treasure Island, Black Sails will follow the adventures of cutthroat corsair Captain Flint and his crew of brutal buccaneers, whose plundering ways have led them to the brink of extinction. Flint’s fight for survival forces him to seek sanctuary on the debauched pirate paradise New Providence Island, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and stunning brutality. On the journey, Flint will take on a young, fast-talking addition to his crew— one, John Silver.

Yeah pilot was very good. Woman who plays Eleanors acting was a little cringeworthy but other than that very promising indeed

Been looking forward to this for some time. Spartacus was awesome (well Season 1 at least, went downhill from there).
Seasons 2 & 3 of Spartacus (although still very watchable) didn't match up to Season 1, but by Jupiter's ****, the prequel "Season 00" (Gods of the Arena) was indescribably awesome.

Apologies for the complete off-topic, but the point needed making. :)

Oh yeah, forgot about GotA, that was awesome. Poor Gannicus, he was a legend.

Black Sails was alright, I'm looking forward to the 2nd episode. The actress who plays Eleanor is awful and stands out from the rest of the cast because of it. The actor who plays Cpt Flint looks like a ginger Michael Fassbender.

Another show with silly hot nekkid women so can't go wrong, its another one to add to the list alongside true detective and banshee :)

I didn't rate it. Firstly. It lacks strong leads. Casting is like in a six parts per year high CGI low budget ITV production. Secondly. Pilot was very uneven and the whole boobs everywhere thing never works for long. It was literally screaming for a massive cliffhanger with a juicy mystery. Wasted opportunity, will be off the air by next season.

It is the same in all tv programs realy, they have hot female in position that in real life would never be a female. At least with this one she said it was her dads bar but she just ran it. Made it a bit less unbelievable. But having all male cast would not make it as interesting. It is true there are no known cast but in some ways lost was like that when it start, not saying this as good as lost. Just saying that some good tv shows started out with cast who were not a list celeb. At least its not made for children. So we can hopefully look forward to some ship battles.

is supposed to be long john silver.....

I thought he was just some random guy for part of the story and not supposed to be one of the main characters..

he's got almost 0 screen presence

the majority of them seem to be very poorly cast like they wanted models and another teen super model series

Its confusing to me with the plots and so many characters, only time I pay attention is when the girls come on.

Watched the first three episodes now. I think 'meh' sums up my feelings so far - except for those I have toward the guy playing John Silver, who I seem to hate with a passion.

To be fair, Spartacus only really started to interest me after episode three or four, and I loved that by the end of it. Somehow I just can't see the same happening with this. It just doesn't have much going for it at all.
