Electronic cigarettes pros and cons.

My view of vaping is, harmful or not, it's LESS harmful than smoking and so if it gets smokers to quit tobacco then it's a good thing.

this x1000.

i keep getting moaned at as to when i'm going to stop vaping... how about i've made a big step quitting fags, so does it really matter? logically, the damage (if any) caused by these is going to be significantly less than ciggies!

i generally mix different pre-made flavours of similar nicotine content, so i can essentially tailor it to what i fancy at the time.

current favourite is blended tobacco (which actually tastes a bit like raisins) with plain tobacco flavour :p

Pros: less dangerous than regular cigs, less stinky
Cons: you still look like an idiot, you are still addicted to a harmful substance with all the drawbacks that neurophysiological addiction brings.

Without reading the mahoosive thread, which would be the best kit to buy?

I can't get along with the disposable ones, so would be looking for a kit/mixing my own fluid.

Check the first post in said thread dude, that whole thread has helped me to no end.

I smoked 20 a day for 25 years. I switched to vaping last year and haven't touched a ciggie since.
I make my own fluids so I know EXACTLY what's in it (aqueous glycerine, clinical grade nicotine, flavourings).

THIS. I love making my own juice and so many flavours to try+mix :)

I don't know if it's true, but I heard that there's a thriving e-cig community which keeps abreast of all the political, technological and scientific advances in the electronic cigarette sector.

Nicotine isnt really all that harmful by its self but it is addictive much like caffeine The real killer in real smoking is the THOUSANDS of other chemicals that go into every single cig

There appears to be no cons to it other than having to charge batteries etc.

It's commendable that you've stopped smoking cigarettes so why don't you go all the whole way and give up vaping?

Why should he? He's substituted smoking, which we all know is very harmful to the health, to getting nicotine in a safer way by orders of magnitude. Vaping is not about giving up nicotine, it's about not burning tobacco, tar and the thousands of chemicals that come with it. My GP practice fully condones e-cigarettes and so they should. It was actually a very senior oral surgeon who get me to try vaping as an alternative to smoking.

If you make your own is it possible to kill someone "unknowingly" with a mega hit of Nicotine ?

Not that im planning it, Ive said too much.

:P

Ex-smoker here. I can say hand on heart, these do not work if you are wanting to give up smoking. As a healthy alternative, they seem like an idea but you are only replacing one habit with another. What worked for me and I am now smoke free for one year, was NRT patches. You gradually reduce the amount of poison in your body until you can stop with the patches. Stopping the patches was far easier for me than going cold turkey. I have now booked my first holiday in a long time and am upgrading my PC with the money I was spending on these legal drugs.

Because I don't want to. Why don't you give up eating bacon?

Because your brain does not get physically addicted to bacon, unlike nicotine. Furthermore, bacon is not highly toxic which as little as 1-30mg can be lethal if ingested, unlike nicotine, and bacon does not course birth defects, unlike nicotine!

Much the same could be said of alcohol but no one is trying to encourage me to give up my nightly tot of whiskey.

Smoking we know is definitely lethal however vaping is - so far - shown to have no major harmful effects.
I enjoy vaping much more than I enjoyed smoking because - lets face it - cigarettes taste like crap. Vaping some nice custard flavour is certainly better.
This has actually led on to another consequence of vaping which is that I also stopped eating sweets and chocolate. I get my sugar taste from vaping and so have lost a significant amount of weight since I stopped smoking. Most people pile on the pounds.

It seems to me a relatively harmless passtime much like drinking coffee or taking a drink.

I can say, hand on heart, I wouldn't have given up smoking without these (now smoke/vape free).

horses for courses tho, my friend started vaping around the same time as me, but has reverted back to smoking because it doesn't provide enough 'escape' from work etc (he's a chef). he finds he uses it far more regularly but without providing a big enough hit.

You are swapping a dangerous habit with a safe one.

Also your entire post is statistically against the grain. NRT patches have a success rate of around 12%, e-cigs have a success rate over over 70% so to say they do not work is demonstrably false.

But then that's probably because you think someone who vapes is "still smoking" when they aren't.

He's probably using crap cigalikes from the local corner shop. The great thing about vaping is you can up your "hit" to whatever you want (especially if you make your own juices). One of guys on VTTV vapes 54mg juice, that a lot more nicotine than you get from a cigarette.
