ARMA II DayZ or DayZ stand alone or Rust?

Stay clear of DayZ Standalone. Not only is it incredibly tedious, but it incredibly boring too. A few years or decades time it may be an ok game, but ATM without vehicles and hard zombies, it's just a running simulator.

DayZ Mod Epoch is fantastic still, and a lot of the fun is the banter in side chat, the SA doesn't have side chat because Rocket says no, a bit like that annoying computer.

I totally agree with this, at first the SA was great, I think I put something like 50-60 hours into it but then what ...? I didn't really have anything to do other than do what I had done all over again and again and again, and what I had done wasn't a great deal due to it being so limited in terms of loot and vehicles, but it is an Alpha release so I guess this is due to be expected, it will mature with some excellent content I am sure.

Epoch though on the other hand (as well as a lot of other DayZ MODs) is excellent. I've been playing this a LOT lately and can say I am thoroughly enjoying it, I'm currently playing as a lonewolf (due to recently getting back into PC gaming and mates are pretty much all console gamers) and I'm totally immersed by it, I get lost for hours foraging, hunting, looting and recently trading in my finds to buy whatever else I need which I can't get, next I am going to try base building which looks great however time consuming it might be.

If I had to put these in order of personal appeal at the moment I would have to go with:

1) Arma 2 DayZ Mod (Epoch and other variants) just excellent.
2) Rust - for an Alpha it is VERY polished and shows great promise.
3) DayZ SA - good fun but looses its appeal after a while unless you just want to continually kill people I guess.

Ive played dayz SA now for over 177 hours and ive squad wiped whole teams on my own, it really is the thinking mans shooter. I do enjoy playing with friends and solo, game has a high learning curve but once youve been around the map on your own and died a few times you start to get the hang of it and how it works.

Ive played RUST and although its ok i find its incredibly boring on your own but is fun with friends.

I have not played the dayz mod and dont intend too as thats old hat nowadays.

I also played the Arma 3 mod Broken point and although the graphics are good it has a totally different atmosphere to Dayz and there arnt many servers, probably 2 or 3 in the UK/EU. I didnt like it and uninstalled after about 3 hours of play, i thought it was severly lacking in atmosphere if im honest.

I know what you're saying, but thinking mans' game, really?

Patient mans' game I would agree with.

I killed a full squad last night in Epoch, I was with another player though but the kills were mine.

Ummm. Yes yes and yes.

Spot on!! Only thing with epoch is when you work with friends and clan members you very very quickly become filthy rich !!

Rust is wickedly addictive and cocky-roach server from the ocuk thread has fair admins and a great community. I would recommend that over the other options 100%.

I find dayz lacking in that you just spawn, find loot, hope to see another player to kill and then log off, or die and rinse and repeat. With rust you get to build a base to keep your stuff safe, can build it with a group of friends sharing doors etc and try to make your base impregnable whilst you raid other peoples bases.

Its just flat out fun.

Breaking point for Arma 3, is better than dayz stand alone at the moment.

yea dayz ~SA is missing so much stuff from the mod version
epoch should be coming to arma3 anyway and there is always the breaking point mod for arma 3 if you want something like dayz

You know you can do all that in Dayz Epoch right? Not only is the base building EPIC, but the PvP is on a different level!

Indestructible bases has imo always been pretty lame (CPC & MGT Epoch). With Rust it is pretty much all about base raiding and blowing peoples walls apart which is a whole new level of fun.
