Giving Up Coffee

I loooove my coffee and, by most people's standards, I drink quite a large amount of it, perhaps up to 8 cups a day but more often about 5.

After having two quadruple espressos today and reflecting, I think I might cut it out of my system entirely (or only have the occasional morning cup). I imagine it'll be tough without the caffeine boost and the warm cosiness that comes with routine, but I'm hoping it might make me more productive. The fact my body is already screaming 'noooo don't do' implies that it's an overwhelmingly good idea :p

Is this a pointless endeavor of biblical proportions? Will I die at work? Anyone else fancy joining in? etc!

Just drink decafinated. As long as it's good quality, you'll still get a good tasty cup, but without the huge amount of caffine that 8 cups a day (!) will give you.

You won't die but it is hell for a few days, however, you will feel better, you'll sleep better and all round its a good idea.

Wow you drink a lot of coffee!

Cutting it down a bit won't do any harm but going from that to none will be quite a shock.

I have one in the morning but any more and it makes me feel a bit ill.

I stopped a couple of months ago. I think headaches are due to lack of water. If you cut out 5 coffees a day make sure you drink 5 glasses of water.

I agree that coffee isn't good for you. You will get used to not having it pretty quickly and if you are tired in the mornings then you should be going to bed earlier. Not downing loads of caffine.

Cut coffee out of my diet entirely a few months back, even now I'll only have a cup of tea to treat myself, but I do feel an awful lot better for it. Next on the hit list is cigarettes. :)

Caffeine is a net negative drug. Your brain adapts to expect it, which is why you feel like ass in the morning until you have your coffee. I used to drink 15 cups of coffee a day, and now if I want a hot drink I have licorice and mint tea (sounds horrible, but isn't). You'll feel like hell at first, but the headaches only last a couple days and then you're golden. If I really feel like a good coffee, I make it count with a bag of freshly ground decaf roast in an aeropress (my bro is a roaster at Rave coffee and helps me pick the good shiznit, because it's all greek to me).

Come to the dark side ;)

You will have a really bad headache for a few days due to withdrawal symptoms and will likely be narky and irritable for a few days.

Understatement of the year, I was drinking 10-15 cups a day and quit, people said I was something like out of the exorcist for a good week. I've never felt so crap in my life either, but afterwards, replacing the coffee with bottled water, definately feel more energetic on a whole.

Just cut down on the number you have as eight is rather excessive! The Huff' post link above shows why. :)
