Kidney Stones

Ok so I had a kidney stone and passed it in November but I still had niggling pains up until about a week ago. Yesterday I again had the sharp pain but quick pain when the stone passes through the urethra (d*ck tube/pipe) but never passed it when urinating. So I'm just sitting at the computer and notice something resembling another stone sitting on top of my duvet.

Looks like a 2nd smaller stone has come out of my d*ck while sleeping last night without the need to urinate it out, weird.

He made the break for freedom while the guard was sleeping. Pushing himself through a long sewage tunnel Andy Dufresne style.

I had kidney stones (a small one, 3mm?) in October - it felt like id been punched in the back really hard, to the point i went to hospital thinking id slipped a disc or torn something. They did a pee test whilst i was there, it all looked ok to the naked eye but apparently there was blood in it - microscopic.

Anyway, after a CT scan they found the little buggar and gave me some tablets, but it never passed and apparently its broken up but there is still a bit in my 'right uretur' (noice) as of the start of January, but its giving me no pain so they said to leave it.

But - I didnt have any of the 'Oh its the worst pain in your life, i couldnt breathe from the agony' type pain others mention - so i think myself extremely lucky. Or northerners are just tougher. :)

I'm northerner and Ive fractured my skull, shattered both wrists, broke my hip, dislocated my knee, snapped my arterial cruciate twice and had my jaw pinned back in place.

The worst pain Ive ever had is from a 6mm stone working its way down down the urethra. None of the above comes anywhere near in terms of pain intensity!

I had another scan in November and I still have 20+ stones sat in my left Kidney just waiting to give me grief in the future.

On the 20th Dec I passed one (my 11th in 2013!) and then got treated to a UTI over the xmas period.

Lack of sleep, severe cold shivers, extreme sweats, blurred vision and hyper sensitivity were all a big part of my holiday which was not fun and it was the worst infection I've had to date..

Bloody hell!! You're a brave man, damn northerner.

Well today was a new experience, I've passed no less than 5 stones in the space of 3 hours which was 'interesting'...

One of them is 7mm across and I certainly knew about that one coming down. :(

I see your 7mm and raise it with an 8mm stuck just before it gets to the bladder were the tube narrows. Got to go and have it erm removed...Ureteroscopic

I'm trying everything now to avoid that.
Lemon juice
My own weight in fluid every hour....Etc etc

I've been having pains on my left side, near my kidney for about 2 months.
It's a very sharp, jabbing pain - it makes my back hurt and I can't move my neck down much without it becoming unbearable.

Doc thinks it could be a kidney stone, had xrays on monday so, hopefully it's something that simple - I dread having to pass it but since it's been going on so long chances are it's too big to pass? It sucks to say that but I'd rather have it done by lithroscopy/Lithotripsy or even an operation rather than the pain of passing.

Have had intense bowel pains for years as well which is the worst pain I've ever experienced but each time I talk about it nothing gets done, I literally mean that, nothing. Guess we'll see when the results are in!

Ooowwwww....ureteroscopics suck.!
I don't know how a 7mm stone got through but I've had problems since December so I presume its all related.

I was lucky this time in that I got a load of pain Thursday night, spent Friday morning drinking Lake Windermere and then had all 5 flush though very quickly ( I only thought there was 1 though)

You have my sympathy fella, I hope the pains eases!

edit - and I do have pics of the 7mm beast if anyone wants to see :)

I hate this thread, Every time it pops up it reminds me of what I went through & scares me that I'll have to go through it again when I am older & weaker. :(

0-5mm usually pass spontaneously
5-10mm stones can cause problems
>10mm likely to require lithotripsy/manual extraction depending on position

vast majority of stones are calcium oxalate (sharp spiky crystalline)
interesting symptom someone described further up in post #46 is called strangury
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strangury

it's not pleasant - i've had seven stones so far, only one requiring to be fished out but renal calculi seem to be much more common than in the past - i think the biggest risk factor for developing them is being chronically a little dehydrated > concentrated urine> crystal formation> pure agony when the stone starts moving

i have more sympathy with patients having experienced it myself :)

I've never experienced it, but I had to take a colleague to hospital with them.

Honestly, I have never seen a big grown man cry and scream like he did. It's not nice!

I think my one formed due to never drinking enough liquid. Up until I got it I probably drunk between 1500ml-2000ml maximum even on days when I exercised.

Also I went to China for 6 weeks and walked around loads in the crazy heat and probably drank even less. I got a feeling that's where the bulk of my stone formed.
