The Passat Has Gone, Long Live the....

I was tempted by the R36 after selling my B6 2.0T Passat. I believe the R36 is the same as your CC, only not a CC and a bit older lol Big engine, Haldex 4WD, DSG, lots of toys

The 3.6 VR6 in these does sound quite throaty.....much deeper than my R32's 3.2

As dull as people think/feel Passat's are, I do still miss mine and at the end of the day they are still a pretty capable car. Kudos on the new one :)

The photos aren't doing it justice, I would imagine that's a nice play to sit.

This shot might give a better idea of the colour combo:

Sorry for going off-topic;

The passat r36 is definitely on my next car to own list. I love the noise they make. They are brilliant for the money, but seem to have a great 0-60 time then lose puff after that?. This is going by videos on youtube.

How is your r32? I heard for the size of engine, they're not really that quick and the economy sucks and the road tax is £lolmoney. I'd consider one, but they seem to be common as muck round my parts with the dealers.

Out of interest, what do you know about the 4Motion system in these, i was reading on source which stated it could move a large amount of the power backwards if needed, but i'm not sure what sources to trust?

The MK5 R32 is an old car, hell mine is an 07 plate so while still quick isn't as quick as a lot of things on the roads today. They are very heavy with the VR6 and Haldex 4WD, but then 250bhp isn't exactly a paltry amount of power either. I can't comment too much on the 3.6 VR6 but if it's like the 3.2 then it doesn't feel like it looses puff? It just keeps accelerating upto your desired speed, the thing that gets me is it's deceptive. It never feels like your going as fast as you actually are!

Economy isn't bad for an engine of it's size. I average 24-25mpg with mixed driving and can easily achieve 30-32 on a long run cruising, tax is a bit grueling but you don't worry about tax when buying a big engined car lol

In my opinion it's an excellent long distance GT type car rather than a straight line speed machine. It feels very wafty on a long run due to the effortless DSG and big engine, comfy (not loud inside the cabin while at motorway speeds). It grips like nothing I've driven before. From a standing start in most weather conditions, there's no drama. Just a split second of wheelspin at the front before the haldex kicks in and you're away. Plus who can deny the noise from the exhaust? I strongly suspect the CC the OP has bought will be similar all round.

Thats exactly what it can do. For the most part it will be front wheel drive until slippage is detected on the front wheels or you accelerate quickly (or powering up a hill or something). I don't know the figures off the top of my head but depending on the gen of haldex, it can shuffle x-percentage of the power around when needed. I believe the current gen haldex is actually a fair bit better than the gen2 I have in my R32. Not sure what gen you have in the CC?

If it's anything like the R36, then maybe Dolph can give you some user experiences as he used to own an R36

That's mine, it's sat with the dealer getting two bits of trim fixed, pick it up this weekend (fingers crossed) :)

Lot of car for the cash!

Congrats - just had another look at the listing and it looks fantastic. I'd also quite like having such a rare car, especially as 99% of people will assume it's a 2.0 tdi.

Lovely car.

I always find it funny that the same people who think 231hp from a 3.0 6cylinder engine (330ci) is just fine, go on about a 250hp 3.2 6cylinder engine being rubbish. One rule for one marque it seems! This is rampant all over facebook and the internet...

The 3.2 a3 I drove felt lovely. I think most of the problem is you get people like chris harris driving one and saying it is slow...what people fail to realise is he spends most of his day in a 400hp super saloon...ofcourse a 250hp hatchback will feel slow!

I would love a late model 3.2 a3 and do the 3.6 conversion, apparently it is plug and play and the engines are there to use as lots of R36 owners have writting their cars off.

There was a sorted mk2 golf 3.6 supercharged on pistonheads for £8k not long ago. Had somewhere around 420hp...

heh, weirdly i've been looking of these lately (need to move back to something 'sensible' soonish) and even spotted that one - although i'm holding out for a black interior, can't stand beige leather personally
