Ok so a while ago I got a nice new Corsair Force GS 128Gb SSD and I did a fresh install of win7 64 pro. All went well and the systems been great and stable.
But after a while I noticed the system reserve partition had appeared. WTF. I had already seen and accepted this with my old Vertex 2 so, curious, but fine no worries...

But then recently the icon for 'system reserved' changed randomly in my computer to an SD Card icon. Then when I tried to update the SSD firmware using Corsair Sandbox it just keeps failing, and in the overprovision section it says 'one of the volumes on this device could not be found in the system device' and it wont allow me to set any overprovisioning.

Does anyone know what could be going on? And why I can't update to firmware 5.24?

Is it safe to just delete the system reserved? Can a new one be created?

you can delete it but it wont boot anymore

booting from the windows disc and doing a startup repair usually cures it

you need to delete the partition and expand the os partition to take up the free space or it will create it again

Ok thanks for the reply! Do I need to delete it before doing start up repair or shall I try the repair first?

delete it first then expand the os partition or merge it,or else it will create another again

then boot from windows disc and do startup repair

Tried but it won't let me.
'Windows cannot delete the active system partition on this disk'

Ran windows repair and it found startup issues and fixed but I still cant update the ssd firmware? Any clue?

it might not let you delete it if its being used,i deleted mine but I used easus partition master software,it does it in dos/just before booting up into windows
I updated my corsair gt through windows and the update tool

if you have a spare pc,then plug the corsair in and you can update it through windows that way, just don't boot from it

Hmm ok well I sorted the partitions out now. I didn't have to delete it, just managed to sort out the drive letters so now its not visible in my computer again and properly active. Used that easeUS partition master.

Anyway, about updating the firmware, is there any reason you can think of why it keeps failing to install? It now recognises it properly for the overprovisioning and I've got it set to 4Gb for that but it still cant successfully update to latest v5.24.

Is it the correct fw version for your model and size of ssd? It ain't flash if its different, should be straightforward to update it,can try running the software as admin

Well its Corsair Toolbox (I said sandbox last time haha!) that is offering me the update so I'd bloody hope its the right one for the drive! lol

And yes its set to run as admin.

OK IT'S SOLVED!

Yes in AHCI.
Turned out that an updated Toolbox had been released, probably for that reason, so I downloaded that one and hey presto!

I had v1.1.0.0 and the new one is v1.2.0.9. The old one is the only listed download for my drive on corsair's site. The new one is only on the separate downloads page. But at least its fixed.
Thanks for the help anyway guys :)
