What are the origins of the Northen Ireland loyalists?

But it was entirely minimal and nothing like the threat posed during WW1
True, particularly with the easter rising in 1916. Strangely a time when more men from southern ireland were fighting in the british army than there were from the north of ireland.

yeah, like i said boils down to the english, i feel entitled to say this given i'm a cornishman by birth and therefore not [entirely] biased. northern irish politics these days is a mystery to me although i'll confess it makes for some great comedy material.

I'm confused. Are you saying you're not English, you're Cornish?

The Romans got as far as Ireland and deemed it unworthy of conquest.

They got as far as Scotland and built a wall to keep the Scoti from coming through there. That there was sea between Ireland and the mainland was a bonus. It would have required a much longer wall.

William the Conquerer decided to take a closer look though. Dunno why the Irish don't hate the French more than the English :)

An old form tutor stood for the Cornish independence party, Mebyon Kernow, way back when. I think it was 2005... the summer I left sixth form.

Edit :: or they just want devolution... (for now...)

I don't blame 'em. The Cornish get royally shafted by virtue of being part of England. The poorest English county but the highest property prices outside of London (or something).

unless they are planning to chisel themselves free of the rest of the country no form of independence would sort that out :P

too busy digging out a sinkhole under the ginsters factory

prices are high thanks to holiday homes owned by the rest of england and the county's been poor ever since the mining packed up. not the best combo

Enlighten us, please, I beg of you oh wandering wiseman. With a swish of your cloak dispense with the ye olde ancient knowledge.

Despite your terrible attempt at sarcasm, let's start with Ireland gaining independence during the second world war rather than in 1916 ..
