False shoplifting accusation

There is a difference between someone concealing items to steal and heading for the door & genuine shoppers placing things in pockets/bags but then paying at the checkout. I'd imagine most people with half a brain could grasp this concept...

Which is my point, but originally you just seemed to be putting across that anything that could be construed as concealment is grounds to be detained for theft.

No I didn't and I wouldn't have gotten very far with that attitude. Although, if you're really well known for theft then sometimes concealment alone is enough. The point I was making was that you don't have to leave the building to be detained & found guilty of theft. It makes it easier at court if you let them get outside but it isn't a necessity in every case.

It's all common sense & experience really, something which a lot of security staff lack.

All we're getting here is one side of a story, a very disjointed and odd story, and it seems to be getting cleared up anyway. A few things with the story don't add up for me but we often get these one sided stories in GD which have to taken with a pich of salt.

The meeting with store manager goes well, by the end they are great friends. As the OP is about to leave the office the manager gives him a spontaneous hug - nice touch.

As the OP attempts to exit the store the SWAT team take him down as the security tagged item that the manager slipped into his pocket sets off all the alarms...

Haha, I couldn't help but to play this scenario out in my head! Oh what a vivid imagination
