ok i have the specs in my sig and an MSI 290X gaming edition delivered today.

I have an issue where when i use the gpu after so long of having it i suddenly get low FPS that will not then come back up to normal levels.
Picture below shows what i mean -

This is the second card i have had that does this, could it be the PSU playing up? Could it be a faulty gpu?

Any help appreciated thanks.

Try 13.12 WHQL and see if the same issue occurs.

Also you're overclocking and not increasing the power limit. Power limit should be set at 50%.

yeah i do normally have that set to 50% will alter but this also does it now at stock clocks.

Reason i used 14.2 was because OcUK always say to test with latest beta driver to see if it helps with black screens, when my last card did that anyway, will revert to whql now and report again.

Run the afterburber osd with gpu stats and see if the card is at 100%load the whole time if it is and its still choppy it can be the psu not able to power it propably. These 290 cards have huuuuuuge current peaks.

ok installed the 13.12 whql drivers and benched with valley and got a low 1880, but better than it was, unticked ULPS and restarted the system and the frame rates returned to normal and i got 2554 in valley (roughly).

Now after a little while as before i now have this -

This happens every so often it seems.

update: just started valley and for the first few seconds it was at 60 FPS and then dropped to 15 FPS again and stayed there?

I'm out of idea's sorry mate. Can't see any reason why the gpu would do that. Maybe another component is responsible, not sure.

ok Thanks for the help though.

I have even connected two separate pcie cables to the 8 and 6 pin connectors to see if it helps.

Connected an old but fully working corsair tx 650 just to power the gpu and the fps is the same if not worse at just 7 fps in valley.
Using the 750 in sig to power everything else.

No its a clean install and no mining running at all, this is exactly what my last card did, very similar. The card arrived today and the box looked like it had been opened i have reported all this to OcUK and i said i would test the card to see if it was ok.
Cant think what else would cause this issue, even uninstalled afterburner and tried it without and its exactly the same.
The fps in valley are mainly around 13fps and occasionally spike to 55 and then drop again to 13fps.
Heaven is exactly the same.

Tried reinstalling afterburner/trying it without afterburner on and nothing changed in ccc?

Also tried bios switch in both positions?

Since logical fix's seem not to work.
Is your CPU downclocking after a set time and thus dragging your gpu down?
Perhaps run a CPU test for a similar time as the Heaven etc and see if it drops
I know this is a offbeat idea but it seems you have tryed most other stuff and you dont have anything to lose but some time

run Aida64 stability test and the cpu doesnt appear to be throttling.
