The cost of a stamp

I think I've sent half a dozen items via post this year. It's not expensive, but it's not a good service either. However, it doesn't need to be any more as it's a service that isn't really required as much any more.

Ofcom still regulate the Royal Mail and I believe there's a cap on the price of stamps. Still good value for money for sending out Birthday cards and other personal mail etc IMO.

The only thing this thread needs saving from is your gash posts.

The reason Op's post arrived just now is because the Telegram only just reached the modern age.

:p

You obviously haven't posted many letters in other countries - using other postal services.

Because for what we pay (and the ease/length of time it takes to reach it's destination) - It's an extremely good service. And that's coming from someone who uses it less than 5 times a year...

I'm trying to remember the last time i paid to send something in the post. Not sure i've ever bought a stamp :/

The Tory effect? what is that exactly?
Boost figures, screw workers, use media contacts and control to make it look like it's working, blame the other guys.

I mean look at Royal mail, another perfectly viable British company privatised and it's going to be in the toilet in 5 years once investors have made quick bucks, perfectly good, already overworked postmen will lose their jobs in the name of "efficiency savings" and then prices shoot up.

Hardly anyone has seen a payrise in years, yet the cost of living is rising at an alarming rate. The only reason Tories are able to say "standard of living is fine" is because there is money in the country, it's just that the money is in the hands of people born in privilege. They've gotten what they wanted now, they killed the union and suppressed the masses, now they are free to do as they please while telling us it's a democracy. Ha, hogwash.

If only economics and politics were as simplistic as you seem to want them to be.
If only you were an economist, you could see how much the conservative party is reaming the vast majority of workers within the country in order to boost their figures, improve the return on personal investments and prepare for a comfy life.

Once upon a time there was one rule to politics - and it is the reason people elected to have leadership and government. The rule was to look after your constituency, first and foremost, look after your people.

Now it seems corruption is expected and almost accepted in politics, no longer at politicians expected to do a good job, it's just voting for who will screw you the least.

Royal Mail is overpriced for sending parcels but it's still a bargain for sending letters IMO, particularly when a book of stamps can last you a year these days. It's so rare you need to post anything.

Im going to take a complete stab in the dark and suggest that maybe RM keep the price of larger packages higher to subsidise the cost of the smaller ones?

I could be very wrong but it make sense to me :D

On a vaguely related note, why is it that when people convert pre-decimal monetary values into decimal that they still equate a shilling to 5 pence as if 40+ years of inflation hasn't happened?

Because nostalgia is comforting, reliving past memories may provide comfort and contribute to mental health. :D
