Guardians of the Galaxy

So let me get this straight: Chris Pratt is John Crichton, Zoe Saldana is Aeryn Sun, D'Argo is played by some wrestler, Rygel is a racoon, and we have a walking tree?

Hell, I'm sold :D

Looks like a laugh.
Good to see something that isn't a reboot or sequel coming out.

Looks like absolutely tosh. I'm worried for the state of peoples' brains when so many think this looks decent.

I'm guessing you aren't familiar with the comics then, as they aren't as mainstream as the other Marvel titles, hence this being more out there and, most importantly, fun!

I see from the character bios they've changed the object of Drax's raison d'être from Thanos to Ronan, which on top of making Ronan a baddie and Thanos's underling is a bit meh, but w/e.

Although GotG are newish characters they inhabit a very long-standing part of the Marvel Universe and while there seem to be some people who want the films to be almost semi-realistic, Marvel is utterly bonkers and spans dozens of races and vast swathes of space/dimensions, and your Iron Mans and Cap. Americas have regularly partaken in dealing with cosmic threats over the years - all the films are clearly leading up to a take on the Infinity saga which makes zero sense without all the cosmic stuff. GotG is a way of introducing this side of things as the team aren't too hyper-powered or far-out and the story is laying down the non-Earth antagonists that you'll see in Avengers 3.

It wouldn't surprise me if they're eventually throwing Abstracts or Celestials in years down the line.

I have absolutely no idea how they are going to be able to fit all these characters, plus the current load of Avengers, plus the rest they are planning on introducing.. into a single film down the road in Avengers 3/4.

It will be incredible.

Tony Stark retires from being Iron Man, replaces Nick Fury as head of Shield. Steve Rogers dies in Cap 3, Bucky doesn't take over until Cap 4. The Avengers 3 centres around Thor, Hulk, Antman, Steve Strange, possibly Black Widow/Hawkeye/Wasp and the Guardians. That's a roster the same size as Avengers 2 and only a little bigger than Avengers 1.

Phase 4 could be back on Earth without the Guardians and maybe an extra hero or two. It's not too difficult to keep switching heroes and franchises - the comics do it all the time and there's plenty of established excuses to switch heroes in and out.
