Hi all

Looking to buy a reasonably powerful 'no gaming' PC and have come up with the following so far:-

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail - £179.99

MSI Z87-G43 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard - £79.99

TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (TXD38G2400HC10QDC01) - £61.99

Corsair Graphite Series 230T Compact Mid Tower Case (CC-9011036-WW) - £57.95

BeQuiet Pure Power L8 530W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply - With 120mm Silent Wing Fan Built in - ££53.99

Akasa AK-CC4008HP01 Venom Voodoo CPU Cooler - £44.99

LG GH24NSB0 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM - £19.99

Couldn't copy basket but Total comes to £508.49.

Already have an Samsung SSD and still deciding Win7 or Win8.1 (both around same price).

Some of the items are 'this week only' so would appreciate comments on compatibility/better alternatives and any other comments before I go ahead.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Th0nt

Nothing too taxing, Internet, ripping/playing FLAC, backing up files from my Humax T2 Freeview HDR and the like.

Looking for fast, quiet, reliable and reasonably powerful.

Don't want to go to 'budget' as would prefer a noticeable (in a good way) all-round difference.

Hi William-Mathew.

No fixed budget but prefer not to spend more than £600 (including OS) as my current PC (Q6600/WinXP) is running fine but want to upgrade before it starts to 'play up' so I can use it as a backup/spare.

Hi

If you are wanting you PC to be a little bit faster i would recommend getting a graphics card.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-329-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866

It would give your computer an extra boost but if you want to get a cheaper one I would recommend getting a:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-229-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1984

All of the components that you have selected look fine.

If you want to go cheaper you can change your CPU to a AMD 8 core :http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-336-AM&groupid=701&catid=1967&subcat=1825

But then you would need to change your motherboard. I suggest a: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-060-AK&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2046

Hope this helps

Thanks William-Mathew

Will consider dedicated graphics card if not happy with the 'built-in' one.

That 8core AMD doesn't appear to have 'built-in' graphics which I would prefer, but thanks for your help anyway.

kevari is way overrated. plus the op wants cpu power and keveri is still pretty weak in the cpu department with i3s beating it. An i5 and using the integrated gfx and maybe upgrade to a dedicated gpu down the line if you see the need is the way i'd go.

Id say this, its got everything, great apu with matching amd ram at a good speed, psu with the option to add a single gpu if you like possibly for hybrid crossfire. Also it is the mini itx form factor, with wifi built in and still a corsair case specced. I changed it to a blu ray player with a dvd re writer in it too because you might use it as a htpc in some sense?

1 x AMD Kaveri 7850K 12 Compute Core APU w/ Radeon R7 Graphics (4 CPU + 8 GPU Compute Cores) - Retail £139.99

Quite right, as it may only save you a tenner ^ go with the new kit, they weren't out when I built back in October but would definitely go in now.
