Bob Crow RIP

Maybe the RMT will now get someone more forward thinking and less belligerent to lead them, and they can truly become a world leading transport system.

Maybe...

The job isn't to create a world leading transport system. It's to look after the interests of it's members.

The system is the responsibility of Transport for London.

From a selfish perspective I didn't agree with bob on most things. But I did respect him for doing his job and not playing media pop contest.

He may not have been popular to some people but he has fought tooth and nail for the working class. He has my respect.

As a member of 'the working class' I found him incredibly harmful.

He was a gangster, plain and simple. He was allocated a powerful position and he used it to bully for personal gain. He used it to make unreasonable demands and didn't care remotely about the effect it had on anyone else.
Completely without morality.

One less extortionist to worry about.

I don't wish the guy any harm. 52 is young, that's sad and I don't know about his family situation but I have sympathy for whatever family he leaves behind.
I am however very glad he's no longer in the position he abused for so long.

Well said!

I'm sure that without the rich food and expensive wines, all paid for by the members in whose interests he was working so hard, he would have lived a great deal longer.

That's my main problem with much of the leftwing; at least capitalists are honest in their greed.

But all workers now have rights and laws that protect them. The unions are just there to protect jobs, which often stifles modernisation and improvement. Their powers should be reviewed to be more applicable to the modern world - such as strikes to be approved by a majority of all members, not simply those balloted - or the militant unionists will continue to hold their employers and customers to ransom in the interest of their own betterment.

Just recently, he fought for the Bombardier train manufacturers jobs, where this government had awarded a 1.6 Billion contract to Germany (Siemens) and would have seen the loss of 1400 jobs in this country. The RMT did a good job and it was Bob Crow at the forefront of all this.

I am biased as I am a member of the RMT and was a Union H&S Rep till September of last year.

Well he certainly believed in what he did. Thats about the nicest thing I can think to say about him. Ill leave it at that.

RIP a martyr who was killed off by the Tory Dictators... paving the way to install a controlled lackey and then destroy the workers rights!

( i fully expect to see something along that line in the mirror/mail before the week is out )

Anyway RIP.... didnt much like his style but i guess he did stand up for those he was supposed to, like it or not he did his job(ish) far better than almost all the policitians he stood up to.

Bob crow, the last left wing leader, driven down by right wing ideology

Whatever you think of him, least he never changed his beliefs or views and stuck with them throughout his life. That's more than you can say about any politician. His job was to protect the members of the RMT and he did that job very very well, they are the best paid public sector workers in london

Well it's unusual for people to drop dead overnight without any history of illness. If he was interviewed yesterday and then died last night, that seems quite something to me.

I am not suggesting foul play or anything daft like that. I am just surprised is all.

People who have heart attacks, especially when young, rarely have any kind of warning it's about to happen. His weight was a sure indicator as to what was going to happen to him as he got older. Just by looking at him you could tell he must have seriously abused his body with drink and food most of his life.

As an rmt member, this. I won't say anything else as it wouldn't be nice.

However condolences for his family/friends.

this really

fat bloke with an unhealthy lifestyle and a stressful job... likely at greater risk than most

most deaths are unfortunate and the guy didn't do anything evil per say, rather he just made himself a pain in the ass and represented the worst of the left (six figure salary while living in social housing, too many strikes called for silly reasons) I've got no reason to gloat or celebrate his passing though I do hope that the tube can be radically improved now that this obstacle is out of the way and hope the next guy is considerably weaker

bring on the driverless trains....
