'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

My sister has joined the ranks of the nutjob alien theorists.

Apparently the phones thing is proof of aliens. So aliens apparently kidnapped the whole plane, took it somewhere with a phone signal, turned the phones on and decided to sit there dropping calls?

And aliens decided to kidnap a plane full of people in an extremely high profile event instead of just picking up homeless people no one would miss? Does our aviation technology awe them so much that they were desperate, or had they just come a long way and wanted an in flight meal?

I strongly believe in the existence of extraterrestrials but this theory is stupid.

The plane will be found eventually, probably when bits start washing up somewhere.

It wasn't missing while it was possibly crossing Malaysia, it was still expected at the destination.

We did see how an exponentially more capable military had no real idea where four civilian aircraft were on September the 11th 2001, is it really too much of a stretch to think the Malaysian military has similar problems ?

Not unthinkable, but post 9/11 any domestic flight that stops transponding must ring alarm bells.

If they'd shot it down we would know by now surely?

[EDIT]Just because things disappear doesn't mean "lol aliens". If something goes down in the ocean, it being incredibly vast, it is easy to see why we could struggle to find it.

A bit of respect here would be nice.

Mate it's all about respect, do u think the loss of 200+ lives is a **** take? Lighten up ffs.... The whole world is wondering wtf happened to this jet and I've flown many a 777. But this is starting to look a bit like the whole airline industry has been on idle even before 911.

Not necessarily. It is a political minefield as most of the passengers are Chinese.

When the Russians did the same in the 80's they denied all knowledge.

You have to admit the Malaysian authorities are acting rather strangely and the information they are giving out is sketchy.

Perhaps they are incompetent. Or perhaps they are just trying to buy time. Perhaps it is a genuine air crash. Or a hijack. Who knows? One thing I do know is something smells off :)

Correct. I was speaking to a chap in work today who has done some work out in that part of the world, and according to him a lot of the area control centres operate on secondary surveillance radar only - no primary radar.
If that is the case, if the aircraft suffered an electrical problem which disabled the transponder, or of the transponder was turned off (legitimately or not), the aircraft would disappear from radar screens without a trace. Without primary radar coverage and a functioning transponder, there is no way to trace the aircraft using only SSR.

Which is just insane really, how would you ever differentiate between friend or foe. As far as I'm aware the UK is not allowed to control from SSR only.

If it was terrorists I would have thought a group would have claimed responsibility by now (with proof).

I wonder if any Iranian nuclear scientists were on board? They tend to have pretty bad luck.

My pet theory:
Large electrical fault knocks out IFF and radio.
Aircraft turns to try and make emergency landing at Malasian airfield.
Malasian forces shoot down a plane that is flying towards populated region and wont respond to hails
Malasians work out that they have shot down a plane in distress not one overtaken by terrorists.
Their Government are now trying desperately to hide the fact that they have made a tragic mistake and killed a lot of people.

If people are going to start coming up with far fetched theories (as for alien abduction I'm not even going to go there) heres a slightly less far fetched one:

A little over a week ago there was an attack by masked assailants at a train station at Kunming in China, 29 people were left dead. Chinese authorities blames separatists from the far west of China. Most of the people on the plane were ethinic Chinese. No claim was made by terrorist groups for the train station attack either.

Coincidence?

(In 2012 there was an attempted plane hijacking by the same separatists, but were overpowered by crew and passengers.)

How else is ET going to phone home? makes perfect sense to me
