Our Bullmastiff caught a burglar last night

Bet your chuffed to bits with him :)

How's the missus? It's a big lump of dog to be knocking you over

Yeah I'm made up with him, he's done his job. :) My mrs luckily landed over the kitchen table (insert innuendo about not being the first time here) and was fine. She felt more guilty that her instinct was to lock the door with the dog on the other side, she felt bad on him lol. Being a woman home alone with a child asleep upstairs, I told her she did exactly the right thing. As much as Hatton is our 'baby' and a part of the family, at the end of the day he's a dog and when it comes to a real life intruder, he's there to come between harm and my family and she used him exactly right. Let him buy her time to get to safety and lock the doors before hitting treble 9.

Besides, he's big enough and ugly enough to look after himself lol.

He eats nothing but raw food anyway, but he'll be getting a special treat today!

On a related note and possibly something to be cautious of these people are proper scum and might try something low like throwing poisoned meat into the garden either in revenge or to try a second time (similiar stuff has happened around here) so something possibly to be aware of.

Bet the guy is wishing he'd got into a different "line of work" right now hah.

The dog did good! Shame he didn't hold onto the little scrote.

Love it, awesome dog too :)

Just out of interest though, you say he ran at the guy the second he saw the guy in the back. What would have happened if that was a genuine visitor? Without knowing the layout of your house, surely it wouldn't be completely out of the question for someone to maybe have to walk round the back to get in for whatever reason, and if the dog didn't recognise them...oh lawd

Body language.
One way to freak a dog out is to run towards it, not that I'd ever put that to the test :D
Running away will only intensify the situation.

reminds me of a time while out waking my parents Labradors a woman told her kids to back away and run away from them, luckily they didn't and the dogs were far to busy playing fetch to show any interest, but i dont doubt for a second how wrong that could have gone for any dog owner. Stupid bint!

I'm not usually a fan of dogs at all... but this is awesome.

Nor me (after being bitten by one a couple of years ago (but I got some monetary compensation for it, so hey ho)), but totally agree, well done that dog!

bet your missus was proper shocked.

when I was around 15 years old I was asleep alone in the house and I heard a noise that woke me up and thought nothing of it.

went down stairs to make a coffee and just as I stepped into the kitchen some guy walked in the patio doors with a screw driver in his hand and we both just stood there shocked for what seemed like 5-10 seconds as if we were both taken completely by surprise and shock lol

he legged it over a 6ft fence but as I had just woken up so couldn't be bothered to give chase seeing as no real damage was done and nothing had been taken.

we were both like rabbits caught in a cars headlights though which was quite unexpected.

even if I was I put in that same situation now at 34 years old I doubt I would try to tackle or detain the person as you know someone with a screwdriver is going to stab you if it means they don't get arrested for attempted burglary.

I'd stand my ground though and try to force them to flee.

Awesome, this is why dogs are better than cats...
most peoples dogs would lose vs a cat :D

Awaits Police calling round to your house to claim that a lost man was savaged by your dog.

To be fair, that temperament is not something to be proud of. Your dog would attack a stranger (not on command). Sorry, uncool.
