Titanfall may use Mantle in the future

Well this is it, unless it's some ridiculously high compression rate (XBone has some swanky audio hardware which can easily jab it all on the fly) then your old school Core 2 chips will have no problem decoding it. Can't understand the need for it.

Frankly if you're playing this on something older than a Core 2 Duo you might as well buy it on XBone anyway lol.

Worth buying if it has Mantle but not if it doesn't for you Matt ;)

It won't have Mantle support. Just as well as i don't think its my type of game anyway. If it did have Mantle support id have to try it though but would wait till i can pick it up cheaply.

Not even Mantle can solve these lazy antics. 35GB of uncompressed audio. I mean, seriously, what modest CPU did they run this game on that they felt the need to just dump that unnecessary amount of data for people to have on their HDD. Obviously the XBONE is able to encode at hardware on the fly, but I can't see how performance could have been that bad on PC.

Dual Core PC's. They did tests and found that many people still running dual core setups had one of the cores sat using up most of its cycles uncompressing audio, meaning the other core was stressed trying to run the actual game.

XBONE doesn't have that problem due to it's 8 core architecture.

So blame people with crappy old PC's for that one :D

Saying that, many other games seem to work perfectly fine with compressed audio on older systems, so who knows! Shame there isn't an option to grab compressed audio if it detects quad core or higher.

Sounds more like bad algorithms, not like the game needs to be able to decode Beethoven at 1mbps bit rate. But yes people with dual core setups shouldn't be catered for any more :D

What the.. I posted on this earlier and the thread had just been locked by a mod!

Seems the same 'news' hype that is eagerly anticipated by the same faces with counters from the same haters hating. ;)

Will see how this one surfaces when it's properly announced. :)

Thief/Battlefield wish they were as polished as Titanfall. ;>.

Never mind API support

Yep. So the way foreword is to release games on old outdated engines and don't do anything new...... :p

Still might buy this as the beta was fun if slightly limited. AI bot fodder and lack of dedicated servers has prevented me from purchasing it so far.

AS for Mantle, why bother on a game engine as old as this? I would imagine for those with Mantle enabled cards an increase in FPS is hardly needed.

Just seen the Titanfall Xbone VS PC vid, Xbone version really isn't pretty. Looks muddy and no AA running sub 1080P. They compared to PC at 1080P. So running at anything above (1440P/1600P/4K) that just embarrasses the Xbone even more..

Can't even use the age old argument that PC gaming is more expensive anymore.. With new APU's and low end GPU's usurping 'next gen' consoles over the next couple of years. Never been a cheaper time to buy into PC gaming.

Think the PC will be able to pull ahead of consoles more than ever before with the with new gen of consoles. Predict that PC gaming is going to see a huge resurgence in 2015, yup you heard it here first :p

Sounds like the Xbox One needs Mantle... ;)

Not a bad shout Boom with PC gaming making big strides in the future. After seeing the specs of the consoles early on, I was scratching my head. Both the new consoles spec is pants and they have to last years....

Good for us PC gamers though :D

They have enough VRAM to cope running Mantle and any kind of boost is a good thing for these consoles.

Agreed, maybe Mantle / Direct X12 can bring improvements with the current console spec, they do need something if they are going to remain relevant for a 5-6 year lifespan.

Thing is Mantle / Direct X12 will bring benefits to PC users as well so the gap will forever remain in favor of the PC :D

I'm not sure it is good for us PC gamers. I imagine most games will be designed for consoles or at least with a console version in mind. So in 5 or 6 years games might not have moved on much due to having to work with console hardware and limitations.

Mantle may be wasted on R9 490s (or whatever they'll be called) when the game engine is still based on a tweaked Source or UE3 engine...

At the end of the PS3/360's life, PC games were out selling console games and the article was saying it was because the consoles were so far behind PC's, people were buying into PC's/PC gaming.

The article I read all made sense and I will have a look for it in a bit.

Titanfall is Source Engine 2.0 mate, first game under it. I agree that Frostbite 3.0 is a much better engine to cater for Mantle, but BF4 is certainly not as well put together as Titanfall was my point.
