As I was saying to Kaap, it wouldn't be an issue on water. I'd say two of them would be quite a package. We already know R9 is not very power efficient so I can't see how it would damage any value model lol.

It would because it would be an expensive card to produce and it would only be an option for a niche within a niche. There's your value model out the window.

From there it would be a full on, steroids induced poopflicken because retards would buy it and not have a system anywhere near capable of supporting it and have problems, however it would turn into a POS card because of it.

If it were my business I' stay right away from it - it's not like the R9's are sitting on the shelves needing help out the door anyway.

With a waterblock as standard a dual 290X card could be quite small in size, no bigger than a GTX 690.

As to having a system capable of supporting it, it would be easier than trying to run two separate cards in CF.

As to sales I thing AMD would sell shedloads of them to the mining community as well as gamers.

The 7990 is a great card and 290x is a great card, so if this happens I think it could be pretty awesome if fitted with a very efficient cooling solution or even water blocks as others have said.

Hopefully AMD will market it as an extreme product and as such will become pre-fitted with a block.

The only other option is a 7990 type cooler, but larger with more powerful fans, that is the only way to do it on air and keep temps sub 90c with no throttling, but it will be just as loud as the blower design. But in fairness the kind of people buying this card will be less sensitive to noise, aka extreme benchers and miners.

I'd imagine a lot of people would also want it for easier crossfire-solutions than having 2 cards.. Me included

It could be that when you order a new 290/X, they send out 2 and ask for the faulty one to be returned and you keep the working one
