Dark Souls II Gameplay Tips and Spoiler Thread

I'm using the fire sword. By far my biggest hitting weapon. I haven't tried, but I doubt you can add it to a magic weapon?

Don't have any human effigies either. I did beat one, then nearly another, but two together annihilated me!

Grind some souls and buy an effigie off the trader by the fire in forest of fallen giants. In on of the cells to the right before you face the bosses you can summon an NPC to help you. Mine was useless and I still ended up facing two at once but you ay be able to keep her alive better than i did.

I'd really recommend just grabbing a decent enchantable weapon for this fight. With the Drangleic Sword with gold pine resin two handed did 350 odd damage to the fire sword +4s 65ish. Fight them on the platform you start on so you can face them 1 on 1.

Right, having trouble with the ruin sentinels. Could I go to another are and come back?... I went there after beating the Persuer. I can't seem to find any other areas atm.

I did this first and. Struggled and found out there is another way to lost bastille (which feels like the proper way)

Head back to Majula and go down the stairs next to the cats house, on the right. Then another flight of stairs till you come to water and a massive gate with a very hard to see lever on the left :) that will lead you to a few more easier areas a and bosses which helped me prepare for where you are now

Any issues with expected graphics quality? Just read this on another site (beware theyre rabidly pro-PC) and apparently some gamers are upset about graphics in the console version vs what was promised in demos.

a lot are disappointed, myself not really as i think it looks great and is a step up from dark souls 1 and demon souls however i recently finished demon souls so anything will feel lile an upgrade at this point

They just bullshotted as most devs do, look at gta 5 and watch dogs then and now

a lot of people also believe the pc version will be what we saw in the original trailers but i cant see that being the case, console vs pc games never look so different its usually just res and texture upgrades from my experiance. Im getting it on pc too, have iy on ps3 atm and i cant fault it but others can and thats fair, each to there own

Yes. It looks awful and I am very disappointed.
You're playing a different game to me then. Unless you only played Dark Souls on PC, there is no way anyone should say it looks worse than the original. I played Dark Souls on Xbox a few days before this came out and Dark Souls 2 looks far better IMO.

I did play it on PC, but I am not basing it on that, it just generally looks bad, and nowhere near as good as the Beta that I played, which if you look back in the official thread, I praised for it's graphics and lighting!...to then be given this is unbelievable.

All of the rubbish they said before release about using torches etc is nonsense. Everywhere is too bright as the lighting is way off

I'm going after the Ruin Sentinels today!

any hints on taking down that first rat thing? Did people take it straight away, or did they got level a bit then come back? I started as a DW and am really struggling to use it :/

Two hand your strongest weapon and then bait it into using it's two punch then fall combo by getting close and backing away from it then you should be able to get a hit or two in when it's on the ground.

Does anyone know the procedure and what blacksmith I need to "unlock" to use the souls of bosses to change them to weapons?

To craft special weapons from boss souls in Dark Souls 2, you need to rescue two hidden NPCs.

The first NPC is Straid of Olaphis, who needs to be unpetrified by a Fragrant Branch of Yore. You get a Fragrant Branch of Yore after killing the boss The Lost Sinner.

The second NPC is Weaponsmith Ornifex, who needs to be rescued from a jail cell in the Shaded Ruins. You get the jail cell key by unpetrifying a specific enemy nearby.

After freeing Ornifex, you can find her in her house down in Lower Brightstone Cove.
