The time has come to replace my Alfa GTV as it needs about £1.5k of work and is not in great condition.

I don't do many miles and can borrow a big car when needed so practicality is not a massive problem (despite what the GF says).

I do prefer smaller coupe style cars to saloons, but am not averse to a bigger car if it is good.

I really wanted a 350z but can't afford one right now, what could I look for that is similar?

Whats with the pimped out examples? And £5k on an RX8 is crazy.

2004 onwards Celica 190 or T Sport is well within budget.

Wants something similar to a 350z. Not a 4pot torqueless FWD Toyota. :p

Plenty of Z's for around £5k. Im always looking at them trying to temp my self from being a boring old sod.

Cheers everyone.

Does anyone know of a good resource for the 350z, I think I need to understand a lot more about what can go wrong on them before I start looking.

There is a 350z thread here if you search for it, was only posted in other day so it won't be far away. Nath did a big post to me in there with everything you need to know.

In a similar predicament. All I can think of is EP3 and keep £1000 back for tyres and clutch.

I'm not sure 5k is enough for a worthwhile Boxter, Z4 or S2000.

£5k on a Boxster will be fine providing you are happy to spend that every 2 years keeping it on the road.

Seriously they can chuck up some massive bills and a £5k just doesn't make sense, spend more and get a decent one or avoid completely. There are plenty of quick sporty cars that can provide 99% of the thrills of the Boxster without the potential eye watering bills.

I had been told that any 350z for £5k would be a nail, is this not the case?

on the contrary, I would take a 350z out of the below list for sure.

Honda S2000 GT : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...ge/2/onesearchad/used,nearlynew,new?logcode=p

crap tyres, ripspeed alloys, pre face lift...

Porsche Boxster :

slush fund needed. its a porsche and repair bills for it will cost a fair bit

Mazda RX8 :

911 running costs, Fiesta ST performance. drive one. I personally dislike them so its best if I dont comment further.

Nissan 350z :

a 5k 350z wont be the best example, and you might struggle to find a GT example but ultimately will be the best car for 5k out of the ones above.
avoid JDM models and look for one with a recent clutch/flywheel replacement.

The gf is not happy with the idea of a car with only 2 seats. Whilst I attempt to win her round what is similar to a 350z with 4 seats?

My first offer to her was the 350z her counter proposal was an auris. I should have started with a motorbike and sidecar and we might have met in the middle at a 350z. Rookie negotiating mistake.
