Titanfall (Respawn Entertainment's new IP)

Some of the point scoring for defenders is ridiculous, I was playing last night, camping on one of our hardpoints and I sniped an incoming guy. I'd done absolutely nothing offensively for the team and ended up going top of our team based on that one kill. This was around 5 minutes into the game as well. Doesn't it give 75 points every 15 seconds or so? :o

I did say this a few days ago.

I was going to buy this friday but people are getting bored after a few days play.......mmmmm.

Also pc gamers playing with an xbox pad on a fps , must be a first ! Surely you cant aim as well , or as fast with a pad ?

I have heard that PC players using pads benefit from aim assist. Not sure if it is true.

I wonder how many of the ones who are getting 'bored' are actually just butt hurt because they are not very good and are getting owned?? ;)

The game is what it is - a run and gun arena style FPS. I'm not sure what depth people are looking for? For example Quake 3 is a world renowned arena FPS that has been going since 1999 and reincarnated as QuakeLive which thousands of people play daily. But all you do is run around a map trying to kill everyone else with a number of different guns. That's it. That's the game. It is great fun to play, addictive, fast and anyone can have a go.

Comparatively, Titanfall has more depth than Quake 3 which is world famous.

On a side note - If people are genuinely looking for a challenge, and a game with deep gameplay, I recommend Tribes Ascend CTF :) Far more depth and infinitely harder than Titanfall. It is also free to play. You can come into our team channel in mumble and practice on our server if you need help. Most people quit after an hour because it isn't CoD and the game physics are hard to master. I have been playing for nearly 2 years now and I genuinely think it is the best skill based FPS game I have ever played. Flawed and in no way perfect but absolutely brilliant nonetheless. Steep but rewarding learning curve, huge range of tactics in comp play and a variety of roles and classes depending on how you prefer playing :) Give it a go if you really want some depth :)

I'm actually a little bored, but because everyone I play seems to be terrible at the game. When I feel challenged at a game it keeps my interest because I want to improve to beat people, but if you consistently just don't feel challenged by any of the other players, it does get a bit boring. I'm going to wait and hope people improve, then I may find it more fun!

The game is still fun in it's own rights, but it does lack depth to keep people engaged for a prolonged period, I think a lot of people will get fed up between generation 2 and 4.

the game is very good fun and great IF you get a good team or players who can play it well.

if you get stuck with people who cant play its a nightmare. :p

had some great rounds earlier :D

Where's the cheapest place to buy this, think I will take the plunge this evening and get involved.

By using a Mexican vpn, and buying it from EA's Mexican Origin store, you can get it for 28 quid with the season pass, or 23 quid for the game on its own.

I almost posted a comment about Tribes:Ascend in this thread earlier... the freedom of movement and pace in that makes Titanfall feel very sluggish indeed :D

Sorry mate, must have missed your post but I agree with you. There are lots of players who treat Hardpoint as TDM and then there are probably an equal amount who are quite content to sit on one point for the entire game just to keep their own personal score ticking over. Makes it a really frustrating experience when you end up on a team with both of those types of players in.

The people sitting on a point are doing it right, hence they are rewarded. As long as your team holds two points there is no reason to ever leave your point.

Agree. Why run around when you only need to defend 2 points to win? The game is about winning.

I'm talking about the people who will sit on one point for the entire match regardless of how many points the team holds. Sitting there on point A for a whole round while the opponent has B and C is not doing it right. :p

OK I have highlighted the above so you can perhaps respond with some suggestions, and explain why you feel a run and gun arena shooter needs to be any 'deeper' than Titanfall already is (I'm curious). :)

I think it does the whole arena FPS thing very well, and it does not try (or need) to be any different. I doubt there will be a comp scene for Titanfall, and the game is clearly geared towards casual fun.

I wanted Titanfall to be so much more. I wanted it to have the same kind of depth as Tribes and the speed of Q3. But then I stopped and realised I can go an play Tribes or Q3. So I just accepted Titanfall for what it is and I am enjoying myself. I may get bored, but being a lover of online FPS I doubt it will happen soon. Titanfall will probably not replace my main game, which is Tribes, but it is still great fun and I like spending time playing it. Having said that Tribes is sucking ass at the moment because of server lag. Plus I don't know if there will be a comp season after EUTL Season 4, so I may start playing Titanfall more. I will wait and see what happens :)

Plus I still have Team Fortress to go and finally play - after years of putting it off! lol :p

But seriously, if you have not tried Tribes Ascend yet, I recommend it if you want to be challenged. Let me know if you want to give it a try and we can get in a server together :)

Oh, and I have updated the LIST :)

I know I'm pretty bad at this game but it doesn't help to know there isn't any hack/cheat protection ?

Why do you think there isn't?

Please don't forget there are tactical abilities and burn cards which give the user powers similar to hacks (IE wallhack, better health regeneration, more speed, more powerful gun, faster reloads etc etc).

This goes back to what I said before about it being useful for the killed player to see exactly what the killer sees during killcam.

It just needs something else, I can't put my finger on what so i couldn't tell you, but it's lacking something to keep people hooked. I will praise the game for being fun, I really enjoy it and I would recommend it to anyone to play for a general fun time, but after a while, it'll be the same thing round after round. Level 1-50 is exactly the same as gen 2 1-50, and the same as Gen 10 1-50, just faster, that isn't enough of a carrot on a stick to keep people hooked onto the game, people love the feeling of progression, and a number next to your name isn't enough, imo.

I was playing Tribes since the beta, I also got bored of that because it was too easy, I loved playing Sentinel, I even had some videos out for it. The only game which has kept me engaged for a prolonged period was TF2, because I was bad at it, so I always wanted to get better, there was also different modes to play on all the time, and lots of fun mods to play.

I guess my attention span is quite short which doesn't help, but eventually when people have gotten to a certain point with Titan Fall, they will get fed up too I believe, I do get fed up a lot faster than most people, but eventually people hit the same feeling I have about a game, just after playing it a lot more than I can stomach. Generation 5 -> 6 if people even bother getting there, is a massive grinder, so I think that will be a major point where people burn out.

It's funny, before release I was defending it when you were attacking it, now it's the other way around. Well i'm not really attacking it as such, just saying that it gets old quite quickly.

Don't assume things, I haven't stated nor said I've seen cheats/hacks in game, but it's common knowledge it lacks something like punkbuster or similar.

Respawn Entertainment has an anti-cheat system for Titanfall in the works, but has yet to deploy it, software engineer Jon Shiring said on Twitter.

"We have anti-cheat but it is not enabled yet--it will be soon," Shiring said on Twitter. "This is important to us."

Just because the Titanfall anti-cheat measures haven't been rolled out yet does not mean Respawn is sitting by idly while cheating runs rampant.
"Whoah Whoah. We ARE catching them. We are not yet ENFORCING it," Shiring said.

Last week, Respawn announced that it was hunting down and rooting out Titanfall cheaters. It remains unclear what hacks (aimbots, wallhacking, etc.) are most common in Titanfall.
