2014 Chilli Growers Thread

I don't seem to be having much success with seeds bought from the The Chilli Pepper Company (http://www.chileseeds.co.uk). The website is certainly one of the worst out there. I have tried several types and germination success rates have so far been 0%.

Anyone else having similar problems with seeds from this supplier?

My seeds from Refining Fire (US), Simpsons Seeds and Nicky's Nursery have all been very normal germination rates.

Both were from chillies, not seed shops. I got the Goronong (?) seeds from a supermarket chilli (Sainbo's i think), and the Aji seeds were from my own home grown Aji.

I find the Aji's highly vigorous germinators.

Not sure if I mentioned that Aji Limon = Lemon Drop. I think the names are interchangeable.

Yes the Aji's have definitely taken off :D

4th day and no signs of life yet on the Aji limon seeds lol The Scotch bonnets have had 6 days nearly now and still no life lol

Not going well!

I would say they will appear any day now, if they are in the correct conditions.

Aji Limon are Baccatuum species and Scotch Bonnet are Chinense. The Chinense are almost always slower in germination and fruiting.

Well from my previous post i did say they are enjoying warm moistyness lol

Mine had outgrown their 4" pots so I've potted them on into 8" pots. They were all pretty much pot-bound - some of them hadn't made much progress over the last week or so. Hopefully they'll have plenty of room now and make some good progress.

Looks like I am miles behind on my chilli plant's - they look really strong and healthy but can't see mine looking like those.

Today I did blitz up my Scotch bonnets and various other chilli's that have been soaking in vinegar and spices since last October - strained the vinegar out and got hand blender at them - added a squirt of chilli tomato sauce and some paprika to give it colour and bottled it up.

Did make me cough and my eyes were stinging due to fumes.

Half teaspoon is more than enough - it is hot.

Finally got round to potting up all (20) seedlings. Unfortunately they're pretty far behind most of the stuff you guys are posting though :/

Yeah this time last year i was pretty far ahead than some here. This year, waaaaaaay behind. I sowed my ones FAR too deep. after weeks and weeks of taking wee bits of soil out, 4 came through. Just potted on today, but also sowed some more. Hopefully i can get back in the game haha

Yeah.. Oh well :p I really should hook up my lights and get things going that way but I'm moving house in less than a month so it's all a bit difficult.

I was inspecting my plants earlier and one of the Jalapenos had actually started growing a flower bud - precocious little bugger. I soon nipped that in the bud (quite literally). Far too soon to be budding.

Small update, I potted mine on, ended up just giving about 10 away plus 4 to my mother to grow for me. I managed to still fit 24 under the lights, obviously I'm hoping the weather improves before they outgrow these pots so they can go in the greenhouse. The remaining ones are on the windowsill.
