iPad Mini Retina - Screen cracked

Hi all,

My daughter has been over the moon with her recent birthday present.
She had an iPad mini retina, all of 3 weeks ago but has now managed to drop it and crack the screen.

To me, it looks as though it is the glass front that is shattered, but the actual display still works fine underneath it.

What's the best and most cost effective way to get it fixed now?
Do Apple do a fix service for ££?
Should I find a local fixer - and any ideas what the going rate is for this kind of thing?
The last option is to claim on house insurance, but I have a £200 excess. So that isn't great for the old bank balance.

Cheers everyone.

Apple will charge nigh on the cost of a new unit.
If you are careful you can swap the screen, i get my bits from amazon and have done a few, first thing I would do is put some tape over the front because the glass splinters like you wouldnt believe, and now its cracked the chance of it getting worse is guarenteed..

B00J5YXQK8 or B00J5YXR8O depending on colour.

You'll need to be damned careful as you will egt glass everywhere, I tend to cover the screen in sticky tape to stop it throwing bits everywhere.
Teardown guides on ifixit.com.
Be damned careful.

My local repair place is spot on done a friends retina mini for not a lot of cash also had a number of phones and tablets done by them myself and their work is spot on

Www.brokenlcd.co.uk they are based in glasgow but they do mail order

Apple will do it for £175 so no where near cost of new unit . There's no way I'd fit a crappy screen that didn't come from apple, not to mention the risks of breaking the antenna etc. the screen replacements you buy are not original apple parts and those dodgy repair places fit rubbish, just go to apple it's easier

If you are happy for apple to do it for £175 then so be it, its 3x the cost of buying the glass and digitiser and doing it yourself. I do iphones ipads, minis etc all the time, buy a new one for 224 or get them to do it for 175, no ta...

new retina is £319 so doubtful you can get one at £244

For £175 you get a new iPad not a fix - seems reasonable considering his home insurance excess is £200.

Hi.
Trig - Any chance you could let me know where to purchase those parts?
I googled and the only result came back with this forum thread. LOL
