Friday my lovely H440 case got delivered! I stayed late at work to get it all fitted:

Looks really good, but have heard many people wanting to know the case temps, as there has been some bad views about it!

So this has been me over the weekend:

Grinding those Paragon Levels in Diablo, Watching LCS on twitch.tv and checking out my temps!

After playing games and watching streams & observing, the H440 certainly does suffer from air starvation, which does not help when playing games, as it just cant push any good of air out the case. My GTX 770 gets up to about 70 Degrees, which im sure is fine, but in my older Coolermaster Stacker - I never noticed it get above luke-warm temps to touch. This being said, the card is designed to work in these kind of temps, so is no problem and I've noticed no lack of performance from the cards.

Regarding CPU temps, I have my water-cooling X60 Kraken drawing in cold air from the top of the case, and even though the air is getting starved from the restrictive lid - it is ample amount of air to keep it cool, my temps have been about... 32/34 degrees when gaming, so this is no issue - I would not like to guess what air coolers would be like in the case, I would imagine that it gets very warm! But I wont comment to much, as I don't have one!

My thoughts are this:

Yes the temps do get a bit hot, realistically, this doesn't matter, my SLI Nvidia cards running @ 70 degrees "hot" is still well within any tolerances, and the fans don't even spin at full speed, my PC is always whisper quiet.

If your worried about it - it takes 2 secs to do this to your case:

And it still looks cool

And so my final thoughts are:

Is it hot? Yes - warm is a better way to describe it

Does it matter to me? No

Am I happy? :D

This is my view, I don't want any arguments about '70 is/isn't hot etc etc. These are my views alone, and hope u enjoy them :)

The case looks great, really loving it. Perhaps a brave person will attempt to modify the front cover for better air flow.

Got one of these on Friday as well, pleased with the quality and looks of the case, however the internal temps with my O/C'd CF7970 setup it beyond a joke. Never had a single problem with my Antec 902, the only way round it taking the front off as above otherwise my cards hit over 90c in 10 mins of BF4, with the front off a nice stable 70c.

The problem I think is it just doesn't pull enough fresh air in from outside. After testing the airflow with nothing on the front its nice and fast, put the dust cover on the airflow halves straight away, put the front cover on as well, its next to nothing.

Considering putting some fans on top it either try and extract the hot air, or perhaps try and blow more cold air in the case.

^ I agree!

Looking around seems the black version isn't out till May :(

Im sure someone will come up with an ingenious way to get more airflow in to it. NZXT should sell an alternate front design which aids in increasing airflow. The red version is now due in May according to OCUK's ETA.

Yeah, I had the Red and Black on order (you can tell as my braided cables are black and red :D) But I wanted the case for the Multiplay i51 LAN event, so I had to go for the Black and white one!

I'm also struggling with case temp. I'm using an HIS 7950 IceQ. In my old case i was steady around 70C even with an overclock of 1145/1490, but it easily hits that even on stock clocks, and goes up to 80, which is proper noisy as its a blower cooler. Not really sure what to do next. Maybe get some fans with high static pressure. Don't want to have to spend £40 on an aftermarket cooler or £90 and get a kraken + CLC. Still though, at least it looks pretty

NZXT reps already said they can't redesign for small changes to a case, costs too much. I asked as soon as i saw the case cos the Fractal R4 has the front vents on both sides and is still a bit warm.

I'd hate to say this but....i told you so? (Not at op but in general)
I mean, the h630 got crap reviews about its air flow and the h440 is basically the same design but slightly smaller and no 5.25 bays. Did no one think the same flaw would still be there?

I can tell you how but it would probably cost you around 50£.
Not sure if that's worth it?
Anyway:

1. Buy a DemciFlex or other white 360mm rad filter at OCuk (or any other color, but then you'd have to use spray to paint it white).

2. Go to www.theplasticman.co.uk (I am not really advertising, but I used their service in the past - I mean cutting acrylic to custom shapes and sizes so I know they are solid ).

3. Order piece of white acrylic of appropriate size (5 mm thick for durability) with a single cutout for fans ( size same as mesh size in that rad filter ).
You will need to provide them with simple drawing ( jpeg from Paint is fine).

4. Processing order + delivery takes about a week. Then you can attach filter to acrylic ( I know demciflex filters come with adhesive ), attach acrylic to the front of the case with some clever method. I don't have the case so no idea what you could use. Maybe even simple 2-side adhesive tape.

or

If you dare to cut the front panel, you could use dremel to cut hole(s) in it and attach the filter.
Probably cheaper if you don't mind making irreversible changes.

Job done !

I'm getting around a 6-7degC rise in CPU/GPU temps with the H440, which is what I expected given the size of the vents.

But, the vrm temps have jumped a good 10-15degC at load. Still within safe limts, but a substantial jump all the same.

Overall, still love the case. The build quality and design are great :)

Going to put another 3 140mm fans along the top, should I set them up to extract the hot air or push cold air in to try and get more into the case? Will either cause intake of dust with no filter.

I would say you need as much air going into the case as possible:

You can only fit 2 x 140mm fans in the roof though FYI - my X60 is 2 x 140mm and it fills up the top almost (sorry about bad light - my White LED's rape my iPhone camera lens):

In the meanwhile I've taken things apart and am thinking thinking thinking...

If I add vents, I'm going to have to plan this very well, as I only get one shot...

Ok, well, ive taken off the strips of metal mesh along the side, and the top of the case....and my cards running at about 60 degrees and the temp drops really fast after I come out of a game, it seems to have sorted out the air flow loads.... Diablo 3 RoS is about to release, so its going to get a good few hours of game play....

Has anyone tried static pressure fans like SP 120's in the case front to push air in?

I mean, they are meant to suck air through rads; I suspect they could suck air in through those small openings as well with the metal strips in place.

Of course that will make the case very expensive, having to buy new fans with the case.

But I so love the looks of it. My next case will either be this or Thermaltake Core V71.
