Buying Mac in the US

Unless you are limited in space, why bother ditching or shipping the box. I carried mine through in carry on luggage.

Less chance of getting stopped by Customs.

A laptop in a bag is just a laptop. A laptop in a box is likely new, therefore liable for import duty and VAT.

Fun or not, importing goods without paying VAT is tax avoidance.

It is not tax avoidance, it's tax evasion - completely and utterly different. One is common sense, the other is theft/fraud. If you're going to berate people, at least do it properly :p

You buy a pair of $200 trainers and a $300 suit jacket because it's on offer while you're in Florida, are you SERIOUSLY going to declare that?

*not condoning tax evasion in any way*

Exactly. 100% ditch the box and make it look like you just brought it with you. If you get stopped with the box you've got no chance of claiming you already owned it ...
