Are you being intentionally difficult? If you are going to host the shared community server don't be so averse to letting people access it.

If he thinks that the "netcode" is the only flaw with BF4 then it shows that he isn't really a Battlefield player.

But I don't disagree with the issue he raised, even though it's been mentioned dozens of times already.

When you look at the e-sports aspect of BF4 and compare it to CS:GO it's pathetic really. The only good thing DICE eventually got right was battlerecorder..... after they patched out all the bugs and exploits. :p

E-Sports is such a ridiculous phrase. I'm sick to the back teeth of people saying they are 'professional' cyber athletes playing Battlefield.

So funny. I spoke to somebody on TS the other day who said they were playing for the national Battlefield team and were a professional gamer... But they went to work Monday-Friday...
 
Why is it? If gamers can earn a reasonable amount of money by being damn good at a game then all credit to them.

I don't dispute that, I'm talking about the weekend warriors who go out to work but call themselves 'professional'. As far as I'm concerned a 'professional' gamer is somebody who earns a living from gaming.

If they have a proper sponsor and paid to play in the biggest most recognised tournaments and have the skill to play at that level then fair enough to call them professional gamers IMO. (EDIT: Due to your post above I don't think someone has to earn a living from it but they do need to be a recognised name from the competitive gaming scene and making more than pocket change to be "professional" gamers IMO).

I feel embarassed for anyone taking BF4 seriously as a competitive game though :P you can't really play a serious competitive match when the outcome of a firefight can be decided as much by skill as some random gamble or completely unpredictable glitch/bug.

Sure, I agree with that. There seems to be so many 'professional' teams these days who say they are sponsored by companies but in reality they aren't.
 
Dying twice due to "netcode" failures then ending up out of bounds for whatever reason and unable to get back in in time due to the parachuting being awkward or whatever just induces rage for no good reason. Its obvious Dice don't really spent much time playing their game or those kind of things would be the first thing they'd have gone away and fixed in beta.

That is pretty much it. They COULD fix the issues but that would require more £££ so, being owned by EA and only caring about £££, they won't.

The sad fact is that if 3million people complained about BF4 - those same 3 million people would all go and buy BF5 if it came out tommorow even if the DLC for 4 was not released.

EA can get away with underperforming, they might get sued by the government for it but they will make more money in the long run by running cheap virtualised c&c servers.

Could be a few issues (or not) - complexity if the game is badly programmed and some stuff is tied to tightly to the update rate itself. There would be an increase in CPU use which with BF4 could be a fair bit compared to other games.

Bandwidth is only a problem if the game is badly programmed IMO - there are various techniques used in a proper programmed game so you aren't resending everything all the time (delta compression, area of relevance, etc.) so an increase in tickrate should only result for the most part in sending updates on stuff that actually needs it - average bandwidth use per server would only go up by a relatively small percentage though peak bandwidth spikes would increase quite a bit.

Increasing the tickrate won't eliminate all the issues with the game's "netcode" but it would make the game snappier feeling to play and closer to what actually happens - when there is potentially a gap of 100+ms between updates things like getting shot behind cover are much more amplified than when you have much less "built in" lag with a faster update rate.

EDIT: The game doesn't even feel like 10Hz to me - as I've used for illustration a few times Quake2 rebuild the gameworld every 100ms (with "double pumped" clients to reduce input lag) and it feels snappier and less vague even - I believe BF4 works with 3 previous snapshots of the gameworld as well as seeming to have a reliance more than any other game on updates from the slowest client in the world (which is why many servers kick people with >100ms ping) which all seems to add up to things sometimes being over a second out of sync with what you expect.
