New Peugeot 107 Rust

Just thought I would ask for opinions on this and if it is acceptable for a new car to have this amount of rust on the front disks and hubs. I took delivery of a new Peugeot 107 2 weeks a go from Randles Stoke. The car had 5 delivery miles on it and I have put a further 400 miles on it. I noticed today a significant amount of rust on the front disks and hubs on both sides of the car. The car looks like it was assembled with rusty parts. Is this acceptable? What are my rights? I'm also concerned about the state of the bearings. The rear of the car has no rust on it. There is more rust on this than my 9 year old KA.

Looks like a new Peugeot to me :S

Seriously though, it's a piece of metal with some surface rust. Nothing to worry about, same with brake discs, brand new brake discs will rust the second they get wet.
 
The drive shaft has rust on it as well by the looks of it. Personally I would not be happy with that at all even if it is surface rust. I have never had a car even the older ones that looks like that. Worth a word with the dealer to see if they will do anything to rectify it.

The disc centres are normal to rust and they can be cleaned up and painted silver.

It's normal. The car has probably sat around for a while. You can fit brand spanking new fresh parts and the surface rust would appear again pretty quickly.
 
What was the build damage in comparison to the purchase date?

Might have been sitting at a dock or storage site for a while
 
These types of componant tend not to be painted. They will therefore "Rust" very quickly!

However, since they are solid castings/forgings/turnings it will be a long time (typically) before it is likely (If ever) to become an issue!

Nevertheless, I still feel it is a bit tacky not to paint them! Similarly steel components under the dash are frequently unfinished steel (with a thin coating of rust) too!

Think yourself lucky! Back in the 70's they didnt bother to paint the bits of the bodyshell that you couldn't see either! (Which is why most cars of that era had undersides like colanders by the time they were 8 years old!) At least that has improved anyway!
 
I was told that the build date was mid to end of Feb. How can I check this?
 
The build date should be physically stamped on the car.

As said, it's completely normal - especially with certain brands - for components that basically cannot rust away to not even be painted. They'll therefore develop surface rust almost immediately.
 
It'll give you a rough date, otherwise your in the realms of decoding vehicle data stickers. My last one was a 306 nearly 20 years ago so it's likely in a different place now.

It is, and if I was mine I'd probably get the wirebrush and paint pot out. However it's a budget priced car and they don't get the price as low as it is by painting stuff that doesn't really need it.
 
Ok I think I have worked out the the build date as 14th January 2014. Your replies have put my mind at rest. Thanks for all of the replies.

Yes it's definitely a budget car but hopefully will be OK for what I need it for.
 
That's shocking if you ask me, my 15 year old car has no rust on any of the suspension components, nor on the front calipers or brackets and driveshafts, I've also worked on other older cars and no rust in these areas. Rust on brake discs is relatively normal though, these cars are built to a cost so maybe they don't come with any protection at all or are made from the worst kind of metals, still I wouldn't personally be happy, perhaps have a look on the 107/c1/aygo forums and see if others have it.
 
If I remember I'll have a look under our 107 tomorrow - its 3 years old and you'll probably find it still looks the exact same, no better no worse

To be honest I've never even glanced underneath the car, had zero need nor desire
