Hello all,

I bought the Titan Onyx i7930 system in 2011 I think and have recently been interest in possibly upgrading if worthwhile or perhaps just buy a new system.

I am not as clued up as I could be and would love some help.
Here is my current spec.

- Case: Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower - Black
- Power Supply: Corsair Extreme 600W
- CPU: Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz Overclocked to 4.00GHz
- Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
- Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalem w/ Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000rpm 120mm Fan
- RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel
- Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 16MB Cache
- Graphics Card: A choice of the latest graphics cards
- Sound: 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
- Optical Drive: LG DVD+/-RW SATA Drive

If I am to keep this system what would be a good Graphics card that would go well with the i7 930?
Is more memory perhaps an option?
I have an 60gb SSD lying around unused which I'll install if it can take win 7 64gb.
I mainly game on it, or try to with the poor graphics card, but I'd like to be able to play Elder Scrolls on-line pretty well and Total war games, and maybe Titan Fall.

If its better just to start afresh then I guess I will, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Tom

The i7 930 is still an excellent CPU and at 4GHz it really can hold up to modern games.

Putting the SSD in it is a great start - a 60GB will be fine for a Windows 7 64bit install and should leave you enough free space to install your main applications and a game or two.

6GB system RAM is generally enough for the vast majority of modern games, so I would stick with that until you feel like you need a 12GB (3x4GB) kit.

As for the graphics card, it really depends on your budget. For £107 the R7 265 is amazing value considering the performance you get, but if you want a bit more grunt then a R9 280X is a good option.

Thanks cmndr_andi,

Really appreciate the advice, If I don't need to upgrade much then I can spend around 250-320 on a Graphics card, I was just worried that a powerful card might be held back by my CPU but I'm no longer too worried so I think i'll look into your recommendations :P

I seen some R9 290's, they look excellent, but will my motherboard not hold the performance back being PCI 2.0? Sorry if that's a silly question.

PCIE 2.0 is half the bandwidth per lane compared to PCIE 3.0, so when running a R9 290 in your motherboard's x16 slot the card will effectively be running at PCIE 3.0 x8 speed.

However, if you look here top-end PCIE 3.0 cards really don't suffer much from droping down the PCIE bandwidth from x16 to x8.
