Chord Ethernet Cables

Why are the only people with complaints about "expensive" cable, are from those who never buy or use or try them..... you would have thought all the complaints would have come from disgruntled customers..... funny that.
Guys get a life and campaign and worry about something important...this isn't. People have all assorts of interests and passions to waste their money on, we all make our own choices on that.
Makes a difference? doesn't make a difference? don't know, don't care, to busy enjoying music.

What do you mean "expensive"? It IS expensive. There's no need for quote marks. The reason no one here (I hope) would try this cable is because they know there's no need for it.

To answer your question - it doesn't make a difference. It's a digital network cable....

Hopefully not the cable posted in Op but certainly many of us have had expensive cables in the past and we live and learn.

With SOME cables, like analogue cables, there can be a difference. Some cables have high levels of resistance and this can affect stereo imaging in music or whatever compared to one with low resistance. Speaker cables with high resistance will warm up and translucent wrap will go yellow with extended use on cheaper thin gauge cables as I found whereas thick gauge cables will have none of those issues.

It's all science.

The issue here in this thread is companies promoting digital cables as if it will make a difference. It won't. It's marketing fluff wrapped in a pretty package.

In reality you can buy very decent yet still affordable cables which are built to last without having to buy cables like the Chord ones posted in this thread and numerous others audiophiles and videophiles will fap over.

Put it this way. V-Moda make cables that can be bent a million times and not show signs of wear and are oxygen free with low resistance wire strands. These cables cost ~£10.

What more would anyone ever need from a cable to warrant paying several times more for a Chord or another supposed Audiophile grade cable of the same length?

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, if it costs this much, it must be good. After all, they wouldn't lie to get my cash..................................would they ?

CD to DAC

5 grand for a power lead, seriously? what about the nasty cable between the powerstation and my house and all that stock wiring in the house? I guess its ok as long as the final metre uses fancy cables.

what kind of idiots buy these things, seriously point them out to me, I have a selection of handmade Ethernet cables i'm looking to shift at a grand a metre

it looks like a bog standard 2way adaptor with a sticker on it £180 that is just lolworthy

dearest I've found so far was some Kimber speaker cable at a very reasonable £26000 for an 11 foot length, anyone find anything more ridiculous?

" You might find that to upgrade your sound, you might need to invest in a player costing upwards of £10,000. Now, in our opinion, upgrading your £5,000 CD player’s mains lead to a Silver SuperKord SD II will bring about an even bigger upgrade than upgrading your player to the next model… and it’s cheaper. In that context, surely the Silver SD II SuperKords offer extremely good value for money?"

The best upgrade on that £5000 CD deck, is to sell it and buy a second hand Michell Orbe complete with an SME arm for about £3000. Will **ss all over any £10000 CD deck.

As long as you don't use scientific methods or measurements to back up that claim

Says it all IMO

Would be cheaper to get a sparky out to fit a new double socket!

I suppose you wouldn't have the gold plated, hand crafted by a eunuch, surge protecting double adaptor though. You'll need those last few inches of cable to be top quality, to balance out the poor quality of the miles of cable in the national grid.

@ 9designs2, Why waste your precious time posting in this thread which you yourself think is a waste of time, get a life!

I seem to remember there was laws about false claims in adverts.

You're right!
I guess I was thinking more along the lines of cables not getting oxidised over time - Especially untemrinated bare speaker cables usually at the ends and you can just cut off those bits to reveal fresh copper but low quality cables can suffer through the whole strand via the gaps in the strand weaves. I've only ever had one pair of cables that got oxidised after a few years of using unterminated.

In reality for most modern homes it's a non issue :p

Haha Snake oil.
I was saying last year on avs forums i am quite surprised its not tried infecting the PC markets with there £1000 USB/SATA/Power cables and the like.
The prob is people buy this crap like the power cables and then say crap like "the change was like night and day" of coarse you think there's a change you just spent £1300 on a £2 plug from B&Q with £5 worth of wire and a cool looking cover on it.

Here is 2 of the best topics form avs forums about crap like this.... well worth a read even tho there massive toppics

Probably usually because people building their own PC systems know a bit about actual science :p

I don't know why certain folk get so upset when people call out claims like this, but to make a point very clear

This is a forum about hi-fi and home cinema. People come on here wanting to make informed choices on what to buy. There are lots of people out there who will recommend they spend x on this and y on that, when in fact it's going to make absolutely no difference whatsoever

If people realise that this stuff is just a rip off, they can then make better decisions on what to buy, so by pointing this out to them, we're being helpful.

Yes against crap TIM, not a good one, try 15-20C or more hotter.

I would rather spend £10ish to protect my CPU than not.

Oh I don't know, check out the thermal paste market... Then go read that toothpaste is normally within a few degrees.

After a few days toothpaste dries out and temps fry the entire computer though lol. There's a great deal of overpriced grease out there but it is designed to stay wet forever.
