I've got to have surgery

Ouchy!

Motor bike or pedal bike?

Not had to have any surgery that severe thankfully, hope it all goes well*

* and that you enjoy your new mangina

I've heard stories where people have been knocked out for the surgery but they dream and feel every bit of pain. Most people forget about it when they wake up. Some don't.

let us know how it goes.

I've had GA before - I hated being on nil by mouth, and felt rotten the next day - I was almost green I was so unwell owing to the GA (I think they gave me too much!).

However, it's amazing what surgery can do.

In another op I had keyhole on my shoulder, and whilst it's a lot better, it is still in a useless state of repair.

Good luck and hope the rehab/physio goes well afterwards - that'll be the toughest part of your treatment.

Rehab should be ok. Just got to leave it a while before I can jerk off....Oh hang on this isn't my thread......

:D

Had a GA 3 times now. The last time the anaesthetist gave me enough drugs to give you that dizzy/high feeling but not enough to knock me out, to "relax me" for 10 seconds before giving me the rest. That was pretty good.

When I wake up after I tend to be very sleepy initially, like I'll be able to hear whats going on around me and respond to them but very much feel half asleep. Takes a 5-10 minutes of this before I'll even open my eyes up.

Had a couple of operations in the past where I've been put to sleep, always felt ill post op but usually out either the same day or the next.

Mind you I was cut open awake three times near my ribs when I had my collapsed lung. They had to insert a hose pipe to drain the air. The pain the first time was unbelievable I was almost crying. I was in hospital for almost 3 weeks and I never ate a thing. Lost a ton of weight. Make sure you get your family members to bring you a takeaway or something from the cafe as hospital food is vile.

Is it down as just a day op do you know?

I have had plenty of operations now, most recent being surgery on my neck, pretty big scar and left a drain in for a few days and they still let me go home the same day, so worst case you might be in overnight.

Don't worry NHS staff are very good and you will be looked after just fine :)
I only had 1 dodgy experience where I came round after an operation and had a minor panic attack, not knowing where I was etc :D

I had a 5 hour long operation 4 weeks ago today (going to see my surgeon tonight infact)

You'll be fine, hundreds if not thousands of operations are performed every single day :)

They haven't given me any details yet, just said it needs operating on and they'll get in touch to let me know when. Suggested it will be within the next few days to a week.

Oh ok yeah just ask all the questions when they call you up then, most likely be day surgery, and you will have to go in for pre op also, swap your balls and all that ;)

I had an operation on my elbow a couple of years ago. The anaesthetist must have been a wizard as I woke up feeling awesome and more rested than I can ever remember. To this day I still fancy another op just so I can wake up feeling that great!

Everyone reacts differently to the drugs and there was probably someone who woke up that same day feeling rotten from exactly the same cocktail.

So best case scenario;
Walk in, fall to sleep, wall out feeling awesome

Likely scenario;
Walk in, fall to sleep, throw up, go home and feel sorry for myself

Worst case scenario;
They mess the drugs up, the surgeon leaves a screwdriver in there and wake up feeling like crap and in agony...

I've had surgery 3 times now after breaking my hip in a cycling accident. I dont mind going under at all.

I will say this though, each time I have woken up I have talked utter rubbish to whatever poor soul had the job of looking after me, I cringe when I remember things I said :)

Well I've made it. The GA was bizarrely enjoyable, woke up around 2 hours ago feeling quite good, a little discomfort as they had to shave then end off the clavicle to reconstruct the ligaments that hold it in place.
They used a limb blocker which has made the right arm feel like someone else's!
The hospital staff have been awesome :)

Only drawback is that I'll be staying in overnight as I need antibiotics via IV

Yep when they put the sleeping stuff in me they told me to count to 10, i started counting and i would say by 3 or 4 i was knocked out as i dont remember getting passed 5 tbh.

Nothing to worry about at all mate u will wake up with a bit of pain after the surgery though and that will be it.

I got a grade 2 AC separation in feb. Talk about a nuisance.

What procedure is it you are having done do you know? Interested to hear your post-op thoughts.

How are you coping so far?
