Does anyone buy or subscribe to any gaming magazines? If so which one?

I think it must be about 7 years since I bought anything. Since they stopped being a useful medium for getting demo's and the fact that they are never the freshest source of news since the rise on gaming websites, their usefulness to me had really diminished.

I sometimes ponder subscribing to edge magazine, is it any good anymore? The website is not great but I get the sense they save content for the magazine.

Which websites do you read now instead?

I used to read Edge sometimes but if I was to buy a games mag now I'd buy Games TM, its similar to Edge's format but a lot less...highbrow if that makes sense.

I used to subscribe to Edge but have moved over to Games TM. Edge doesn't read like it's written by gaming fans these days - it's just full of pretentious waffle. Games TM is the much better read.

I used to have a massive collection of The Official Playstation Magazine, the demo discs were awesome. Never bothered buying any more magazines after they stopped producing that one though, the Playstation 2 version of the same mag just wasn't the same. Plus the Internet was pretty much available to everybody from the 2000's which made them pointless for me.

Just looked on the Android market, and Edge is available for £12.99 for a year's subscription - quite tempted for that price....

I've taken the plunge, that seems very cheap. You have 30 day cancellation.

It isn't that great a format though, feels like you are scrolling through a pdf, with the option to zoom on text. It is the first magazine I have bought through the play store, and I am underwhelmed. The economist which has a bespoke app, is significantly better.

when I was younger I'd save all my pocket money to buy a copy of OPMUK in the Playstation era. Obviously the internet wasn't as massive back then so it was absolutely invaluable, plus you get the awesome demo discs which were further awesome with the full Net Yaroze games.
Likewise, PC Gamer was excellent as well especially when Kieron Gillen was writing for them. That also came with a vital disc with big game patches I would be unable to get otherwise.
I occasionally buy PC Gamer still as it's easy to miss a lot of PC stuff and it's still quite enjoyable to read although a total shadow of what it used to be sadly.

Ahh memories of gaming mags.

I would buy without fail superplay for all my snes gaming news, along with Amiga power / format when I had my Amiga 500 and then 1200.

Purchased pc zone until around 2006 I think, which was an excellent gaming mag, now since closed down, and I purchased official PlayStation magazine on and off during my years owning a ps1, ps2 and ps3, but stopped buying it about three years ago.

I do sometimes consider picking one up but for the cost, and they are costly can't justify the cost for old news I've already read from appy gamer or dual shockers etc...

Like with a lot of things, the price has gone up and the content is less and less, it was hard to justify when the internet got going but really hard to justify £6 for a magazine now! Although subbing is cheaper.

Paying for outdated news? No thanks. Don't get me wrong, you can get a decent amount of content in a magazine and some interesting stuff you don't necessarily find online, but for news and reviews it's easier to just go online.

Edge is the only one I've ever really enjoyed. Articles were always decent.

However that was about 2 years ago, never read many gaming mags since then and a lot can change in 2 years.

Last mags I bought regular were Amiga ones back in the early 90s.
I did buy Playstation 1 mags for guides and things now and then.
Remember me and a friend playing Tomb Raider 2 with a full magazine guide taking 30 minute turns and collecting all the relics etc.

Even back then, I often found errors and mis-prints though so never bought them heavily. Game Guides were especially poor for quality control. I remember getting the official FF7 guide and some of it was just confusing due to errors and they missed loads of secrets and items.

I never see anyone reading a magazine of any kind these days unless I'm in an airport or on a plane!!

I'm quite busy so leave my gaming news to my mates. They often tweet news or text me updates so I dont have to bother looking myself and just get given the ones that are relevant to me.

PC Gamer once upon a time when the reviews were worth reading and the magazine wasn't 50% adverts and 40% WoW related.

Still pick up the occasional issue at airports to give me something to read during take off.

+1, always use to get PC Gamer, from a very young age, often popped into WHS to pick up a copy. Those were the days!

They are totally pointless for news. I do enjoy reading reviews after I have played a game, it is interesting to see someone else opinion on what you have experienced I guess. So there wouldn't be any issue in seeing the review late for me - don't know how unusual I am in that respect though.
