Google-Motorola "X Phone" in the 2013 pipeline?

Never seen a N5 screen that isn't 'washed out'.

Running the Franco Kernel and the Display app helps a little, but still porr compared to the Moto-X / AMOLEDS in general (As you'd expect), and if you're coming from an AMOLED you will be sorely disappointed.

I also seen a moto x too and the screen is great looking but I think it is a little bit too over saturated compared to my one s.

Wish every phone had presets to choose from like Samsung's phones :(

The N5 screen definitely gets washed out in certain viewing angles, the blacks become tinged with that white haze...it's so annoying.

IMO the Moto X colours is close to spot-on in what I want in a phone. 3 sub pixels too! I'd be very surprised if it wasn't better than the One S.

And the Nexus 5 screen...you know those cheap and nasty TN panels in laptops....:D

The screen on the Nexus 7 is a lot nice than the N5's.

Yeah the moto x is sharper and slightly bigger. I just thought it seemed a bit more saturated. Unfortunately only able to base this on what I have seen in store with display models, still rather have it over LCD screens though....

Just read anandtechs review of the nexus 5 screen and they loved it, thought it was one of the best android displays

Back to the drawing board again! :p

Sorry Nexus mate. I'm away working at the minute, have a two year old and quite frankly I'd feel pretty naff if I couldn't facetime him before he goes to bed so it had to be done. To be fair to apple stuff, although overpriced it does just work.

I'll wait for the new nexus and then look again!

Fair enough mike! :) Maybe some day you will get away from apple :p

*sigh*

:(

Might just order the moto x from amazon test the camera out myself, if I am not happy, it goes back!

Do that. Amazon returns are amazing! You could always invest in a slr mate? ;)

It's true: most phones are oversaturated so we've gotten conditioned to liking that. The Nexus 5 actually has very good colour calibration. Of course Google might have more than one supplier for their screens and maybe some models aren't as good, but if it looks washed out to you it's more likely to be that either the glass is filthy or you're using it in sunlight and it's not set bright enough to compensate.

The Moto X screen doesn't seem oversaturated to me though, and all my previous phones have been LCDs. Plus, absolutely nothing can match the viewing angles of OLED.

@Nexus are there any specific situations where you're concerned about the camera quality? Would you like me to post some test shots?

Possibly but no "guarantee" for future updates (although 4.4.3 will for definite but what about the next big android update....) and of course the time it will take for the moto x to get the update :p

Well considering the Moto X got 4.4 before a lot of Nexus devices I think you're safe there, obviously you could say Lenovo may change things but I don't see why they would, they've proven themselves capable of maintaining a brands integrity and USPs, just look at the thinkpad business.

I believe Lenovo have pretty much said as much themselves, there's no equity in the brand if they trash the software experience, Motorola was already on the floor when Google picked them up.

And having a One S you should be well aware of the sorts of promises that can be made and broken about timely updates, there is simply no guarantee, even with Nexus devices. Wasn't it something like 18 months after the launch of the Galaxy Nexus that Google didn't include it on the KitKat update?

And speaking to a friend who is currently testing 4.4.3 and asking "ooh, whats new?" I got back "the default wallpaper".

Stop worrying about it and do it.

Or keep worrying about it and stop talking about it?

Either would be fine!

Yup...even the best LCD's pale in comparison to OLED...

I think that pic/comparison alone has sold me on the moto x again :p

I would really appreciate that! :)

Mainly indoor low light conditions and night time shots, still objects and of a moving object i.e. a dog or cat or something like that :p If possible, HDR and non-HDR shots too.

landscape shot, buildings, forest, garden, beach or whatever is most convenient for you! HDR and non HDR

And just a macro shot (close up) of a flower or somethin, again HDR and non-HDR if it isn't a problem.

True that regarding lenovo, that is largely why I am a bit hesitant regarding support as well as in case they try to get motorola to add their skin/software "additions" i.e. bloat it back up and have horrible UI.

And yes true again about the nexus devices, even they aren't safe :( But they are the only phones so far to get more than a couple of updates :o

Lol, yeah there isn't much new stuff in 4.4.3, just seems to be mainly fixes, main thing for me is the camera stuff, apparently quicker and more consistent focus & shutter, which still seems to be a bit of a problem for the nexus camera....

Yes boss :p :(

To be honest its just boring, and I mean this in a friendly way and out of experience as I know I've talked myself into these sorts of cul de sacs over TVs or holidays although never for well over a year.

You can pick fault with EVERYTHING.. every single phone has a flaw, for starters they're only phones.

It just sounds like you prefer talking about getting something rather than actually getting on with it.

The Nexus has a washed out screen and iffy camera, the X has a lower res screen and potentially iffy camera, neither have any removable storage, the S4/5 has touchwiz and poor quality materials but great 3rd party support for ROMs and all the removable bits you might want. The HTC One has great materials and micro SD but may well suffer from production issues and HTC could be gone within 12 months killing effective updates. Lenovo might Lenovo the software on the X. The Sony Z2 is too big. The iphone is too small and runs on iOS.

However.. in truth, they're ALL fantastic phones and every single on of them is significantly better than the 2 year old mid range when launched phone.

If you spend your time considering everything you'll do nothing and you're the one losing out.

More to the point the more you obsess over every minute detail you're pretty much ensuring whatever you buy you'll be disappointed with because you'll have obsessed over its failings before you've even bought it and you'll have wasted so much time something new will come along.

And something WILL come along, then you'll start again!

in other news, the Nokia 7110 has a slidey front but the mechanism sometimes breaks, the Nokia 5110 has a manufacturing defect giving it a faulty elastomer which kills the screen, the Ericsson T28 is prone to sudden death syndrome and never, ever buy an NEC DB500.

Progress man, its a bitch.

Actually, joking aside you probably need to wait for the iPhone 6.

guaranteed future upgrade path - check
awesome camera - check
awesome screen - check
no need to bother with rooting/flashing etc - check
solid ecosystem - check

The only issue I see with the current one is it's too small but in my opinion having had every iPhone bar the 5S and C and so many android phones I can't even count, including nexuses and ROMed phones, and blackberrys, and even a short stint on windows I think I'm fairly well placed to give my opinion and I've never found anything that is done significantly better on any other platform than it is on iOS.

Yes its a very walled garden but its a great one.

If you're looking for a fantastic experience out of the box then there's really nothing else to suggest IMO.

In fact, trying to convince you to buy a phone is like trying to convince my GF to have anything other than an iPhone (after I talked her into a 3GS years ago lol).

Pointless.

I haven't been deciding on a new phone for over a year!

Only phones that I was thinking of moving to where the htc one, moto x and nexus 5 in the last year, didn't bother with the one though after HTC's announcement about the one s and updates, not even a full year of support......

Really liked the GS 4 but touchwiz is gash, phone was laggy/slow and camera was nice, however, only good for shots where people/things don't move.

As for iphone, never! Hate the huge bezel, don't like iOS, no choice and lastly don't want to support apple :p
