Argument on train

If someone had come up to me and said "You're annoying" my first response would be ".......and?".

If someone had come up to me and asked "Can you please stop doing that" then I would probably stop doing it.

Pretty much sums up the way I would react. If asked politely then I would most likely listen.

If someone asked me in a rude manner like "You're annoying me" then I'm more likely to not give a flying **** what you think or say.

Treat people how you expect to be treated back.

should have asked him to put on something that you both like and start a flash mob.

In all seriousness, if you had approached me in the same way I would have told you off, it was hardly polite.

I don't ask people politely - they know it's a dickish thing to play music off your phone on public transport so clearly they're looking for an argument.

Sometimes, yes, but I've had people doing rude and inconsiderate things that you'd think they'd have to be a complete idiot to not realise the effect it's having on others (OK, they might be idiots), but then they've been really apologetic when it's been pointed out to them. I think some people just forget the world doesn't revolve around them and they just need a bit of a reminder.

I do think people are being a bit harsh on the OP though, it's possible this guy knew full well he would be annoying other people and just didn't care, in which case, he doesn't really deserve politeness even if it's the most sensible way of dealing with the situation.

People are saying they wouldn't have reacted well to the way the OP handled it which is fair enough, but I doubt many people here would be playing music through speakers on a train in the first place. Treat others as you want to be treated, and if he's showing no regard for others..

Ha-Ha-Ha racism strikes again you have to give it to him how long did it take him to play the racism card? Personally i would have been frothing they have no manners and basically if you say anything to them they play the little minority card.

You know what i really really despise, Others peoples noise just because you use public transport does not give you the right to make it hell for everyone else by spreading your noise pollution. Especially if it is some Hindi/Indian/Muslim crap song or typical brap rude boy R&B. Perhaps we should all do it and make public transport a living hell with a mixture of 50 different mobile phone songs and ringtones competing for the entire journey.

I always want to cut the wires with scissors I hate it!

but yes it seems like you were a bit impolite and he was being a bit of a douche.

P.S I think you should have punched him................

I can't comprehend how you haven't been banned.

To be fair, I think you need that kind of input to bring these issues into discussion.

Allowing extreme or retarded views to be aired means they can be challenged, and the obvious flaws in the hypothesis exposed.

Would be a shame to ban those who do represent a, sadly, fairly substantial section of the populous.

Screw being polite to random urban youth playing music on their mobiles...

Just deliberately embarrass them... 'Thats good music, can you turn it up a bit so I can listen' 'what other music do you have on there...' 'is that rap music.. they don't sing much do they?'... Just annoy the **** out of them... in spite of wanting to draw attention to themselves by playing music they get easily embarrassed when someone, risiculously ot of touch, deliberately engages in conversation with them at a volume the whole bus/tube carriage can hear.

In these situations the best method is to shimmy up to the guy, place your hand on his arm, look him in the eye and tell him in a sultry voice that you know he's playing the music for you and command him to dance with you whilst you're still hot.

He will either hastily turn it off or respond with a confused denial, at which point if the music is still playing you call him a heartless beast and hysterically demand he turns it off this instant because otherwise you won't be able to control yourself. Never fails.
