How is saying " that is a bit annoying" gobby and racist?

Should I just apolgized and looked at the ground in fear, hoping the guy 8 years younger than me doesn't hurt me?

No, you should have politely asked him to turn it down a little. You probably would have got the result you wanted and you wouldn't have come across as an arse.

How so? is it even racist now to describe someone? an indian looking bloke with a beard, can't say for certain he is muslim or indian but looked both. So *shrug*

87% of the population of India is not Muslim, which is why people find it amusing you branded him both as if the two are somehow synonymous with each other. It just demonstrates a lack of understanding really.

here, here

OP has an attitude (some may even say chip on your shoulder).

It truly is not difficult to communicate with people from all walks of life, change your tone and you will get results

I work with an indian a patel and a hindu jay who is muslim. They have explained the difference. But I call hindu people indian because they look the same and from the same region and so on. Its probably laziness on my part. Just like i call all people from uk english sometimes without thinking.

But you do get muslims from india so technically not impossible.

He should have asked him what he is at the start. Break them boundaries, brother, and that way you can't insult their race/religion.

"Excuse me, are you a Muslim?" "Do you mind awfully just turning that down for me, old chap?"

What song was he listening to anyway?
