Just bought an MSI HD 7850 OC and am made up with it, but most of the time when I switch my computer on from cold the fans hit full whack and I get no video output. It seems to be booting up regardless, as the HDD light gives it some. Turn it off and on again a few times and it boots as normal.

Any ideas chaps?

Cheers,

BS...

It's possibly a dust removal feature on the fans that only lasts a few seconds after booting. Graphics card seated properly etc..

I think the jumbojet fan is normal, as said previously it is a dust removal feature. For the video out I'd try to reseat the card, check power cables, update bios, cry because you're powersupply might not be up to the job in that order to see if any fix the issue.

I've just bought a Corsair Builder Series CXM 430W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU, which should be more than up to the job. The fan runs at full speed until I turn the computer off, not just for a few seconds.

I will try reseating tonight, cheers...

Hi Brownstone

Do you get pretty loud coil whine on your card at all ?
Ive just got this card and tried it in numerous PCs but no matter what i get really bad whine noise from it :-(
Its not like im doing anything stressful to it even Steam Big Picture causes it

Look at them when this happens if possible.... are they spinning backwards!? Like mentioned above it could be intentional. I had a card that did this, span the fans backwards on full for a few moments as a cleaning type measure!

At my wits end with this guys. Most times I turn it on the fan hits full speed and stays there and nothing is output from the HDMI. I then have to hold the power button in to power down, and try again. Sometimes 3, 4, 5 attempts before it will boot normally. Other times, it will start up fine first time.

I'm starting to think I may have a faulty card.

Any ideas chaps?

Cheers,

BS...

Just noticed these replies, sorry guys, been away in Afghanistan of all places!

The PSU is a brand new Corsair Builder Series CXM 430W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified.

I will look at updating the BIOS over the coming days.

Thanks,

BS...

So, RMA'd it, cost me over a tenner to post it to them, they then emailed me a few days later saying there was no fault with the card. They've sent it back to me, so I got my brother to record me opening the package from them and installing it in my PC and as soon as I turn it on: WHOOOOSH, the fans are at it again.

The BIOS on my MoBo is the latest.

Bit of a brick wall to be honest, as I got nothing but attitude from the 'technician' at Overclockers when I asked for his name.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to live with it until it's time to replace my MoBo, CPU and RAM.

Hey ho,

BS...

To be honest, I think the reason why the graphic cooler would stay at full speed and no display is probably not issue with the graphic card itself, but something else causing your PC failing to boot properly.

I would suggest if possible, try your graphic card in someone else's PC (with a capable PSU)...and if it can boot fine all the time with display without any issues, then you can probably come to the conclusion that it is something else in you PC is causing the problem.
