Hi I currently have a Gigabyte z77x -ud3 mainboard with a intel i7 2600k with stock cooler and 32GB ram.

I have been given 3x AMD 290x graphics cards from a company I have been doing work for as they are upgrading there systems and have gone the Nvidia route.

I've ordered the Silverstone strider 1500watt power supply off this site but need suggestions on a main board that will take all three cards that I can use with my current CPU.
last thing is it possible to run three of these cards without them cooking?

many thanks, Andy

You'll want a Z77 board with a PLX chip.

Off the top of my head:

Asus Z77-V Premium
Asus Z77-V WS
Gigabyte Sniper 3

There's more, but I can't remember right now :o

Tbh, I'd sell one (I say that despite running 290 trifire :p) and put the money towards watercooling the other two.

ED: What res are you running at? How well does your 2600K clock and what do you have cooling it?

Dayum, that's a nice company you are working for :)

^ That Gigabyte Sniper is supposed to be really good I believe

Are they reference 290X's?

Hi it's not over clocked and just running stock Intel hsf

Well, you're really going to want to look into overclocking and getting some decent cooling on that cpu if you want to run three of those cards properly :) (tbh, properly running three of those would require x79, but hey ho...)

I have three 290's with a 2600K (mining rig with the odd bit of gaming) and at 1080p, it's a bit of waste to say the least unless maxing out Crysis 3 counts? :D

You'll want to have that cpu running @4.6ghz at the very least. Closer to 5Ghz if possible. If you're running a higher res, you'll be less cpu bound and it won't be quite as important.

Again, I'd consider selling one and watercooling the rest of the rig tbh :)

I See what your saying the overclocking so it's not a bottle neck , I game on a dell 2560x1080 screen but may look at a 4k one

Anything up to 1600p I'd say is all jiggy. I'd be wondering about vram with 3 cards at 4K though... Still, turning AA down a touch at 4K wouldn't be the end of the world would it?
